History of Indian Creek Village
The island of Indian Creek was created in the 1900s. Workers dug drainage channels for Biscayne Bay, which formed the island. For a long time, it was just an empty mangrove forest.
In 1928, some businessmen from the Midwest bought the island. They wanted to develop it, so they built the country club and housing lots. The Village of Indian Creek officially became a village on May 17, 1939. At that time, 17 people lived on the island, and the country club had 180 members. For many years, the island was a vacation spot for rich people in the Miami area. More recently, wealthy people from other places have started living there all year round.
