About Indomie
What Does "Indomie" Mean?
The name "Indomie" comes from two parts. "Indo" is short for "Indonesia," which is where the noodles are from. "Mie" is an old way to spell the Indonesian word for "noodles." So, Indomie basically means "Indonesian Noodles"!
How Indomie Started
Instant noodles first came to Indonesia in 1969. Indofood, the company that makes Indomie, is one of Indonesia's biggest food companies. It was started in 1982 by a businessman named Sudono Salim.
The Indomie brand of instant noodles was first made in June 1972. The first flavors were Indomie Kuah Rasa Kaldu Ayam (chicken broth) and Indomie Kuah Rasa Kari Ayam (chicken curry). In 1982, Indomie launched its first dry noodle flavor, Indomie Mi Goreng (fried noodles). This flavor quickly became super popular in Indonesia.
In 1994, the company making Indomie joined with Indofood. By 2010, Indomie made up about 70% of all instant noodles sold in Indonesia. Indomie has won many awards for its products and advertising.
Indomie Products

Many of the delicious Indomie flavors were created by Nunuk Nuraini, who worked in the instant noodle part of Indofood.
