Jamal Musiala (born on February 26, 2003) is a talented German footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for the German club Bayern Munich and the German national team. Many people think Musiala is one of the best young players in the world. He is known for his amazing passing and technical skills. Fans even call him "Bambi" because of how well he controls the ball when dribbling. Musiala has played for Germany in big tournaments like UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2024. He was one of the top goal scorers at Euro 2024, winning the Golden Boot award.

Jamal Musiala's Early Life and Football Journey

Jamal Musiala was born in Stuttgart, Germany. His father is Nigerian-British, and his mother is German with Polish roots. He lived in Fulda, Germany, until he was seven years old. Then, his family moved to England, where he spent most of his childhood.

While in England, Jamal went to Corpus Christi School in New Malden. He played football for his school and for local clubs like Fulham, Brentford, and Wimbledon. He even helped his school win the EFL Utilita Kids Cup twice! For secondary school, he attended Whitgift School in Croydon. During his later childhood years, he trained at the Chelsea academy.

Jamal played for both Germany and England's youth national teams. In February 2021, he decided to play for the German Football Association for his future games. When he was 16, Jamal and his mother moved back to Germany. This was for personal reasons and also because of Brexit.

Starting Strong at Bayern Munich

Joining Bayern and First Games (2019–2020)

In July 2019, when he was just 16, Jamal Musiala left Chelsea to join Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. On June 3, 2020, he played his first professional game for Bayern Munich II in the 3. Liga. They won the match 3–2 against Preußen Münster.

Just a few weeks later, on June 20, 2020, Jamal made his debut in the Bundesliga against SC Freiburg. He became the youngest player ever to play for Bayern in the Bundesliga, at 17 years and 115 days old! He was also part of the squad that won the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League, though he didn't play in any of those matches.

Breaking Through to the First Team (2020–2021)

On September 18, 2020, Jamal scored his first Bundesliga goal in an 8–0 win against Schalke. This made him Bayern's youngest goal scorer ever, at 17 years and 205 days old. He broke the record set by Roque Santa Cruz.

Jamal made his Champions League debut on November 3, coming on as a substitute in a 6–2 win over Red Bull Salzburg. On December 1, he started his first Champions League game against Atlético Madrid. On February 23, 2021, he scored his first Champions League goal in a 4–1 win against Lazio. This made him the youngest English and German player to score in the competition. He also became Bayern's youngest goal scorer in European games. On March 5, he signed his first professional contract with Bayern Munich, which lasts until 2026.

Continued Success and Bundesliga Wins (2021–Present)

Jamal continued to shine in the 2021–22 season. On August 25, 2021, he scored two goals in a huge 12–0 win in the DFB-Pokal cup. Three days later, he scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season in a 5–0 win against Hertha BSC. On December 8, 2021, he scored his first Champions League goal of the season against Barcelona.

On April 23, 2022, Jamal scored a crucial goal in a 3–1 victory over Borussia Dortmund. This goal helped Bayern win their tenth straight Bundesliga title!

On May 27, 2023, Jamal scored the winning goal in the 89th minute against FC Köln. This goal secured Bayern's 11th league title in a row, beating rivals Dortmund by goal difference. He finished that season as Bayern's second-highest scorer in the league with 12 goals.

In the 2023–24 season, he scored 13 goals in all competitions, with 10 of them in the Bundesliga. He was the second-highest scorer for his club, behind Harry Kane. On October 30, 2024, Jamal scored his first career hat-trick (three goals in one game) in a 4–0 win against Mainz in the DFB-Pokal cup.

Jamal Musiala could have played for Nigeria because of his father. However, he chose to play for both England and Germany at youth levels before making a final decision.

In November 2020, Jamal was called up to the England U21 squad. He played his first U21 game on November 13, 2020, in a 3–1 win against Andorra U21s. He scored his first U21 goal on November 17, 2020, in a 5–0 win against Albania.

After he chose to play for England's U21 team, the German football association stopped trying to get him to play for them. A German youth coach said that Jamal clearly wanted to play for England. Jamal explained that he felt more comfortable playing for England because he grew up playing with English players at Chelsea. He didn't know any of the German players at the time.

Playing for the Senior German Team

On February 24, 2021, Jamal Musiala announced that he had decided to play for Germany, the country where he was born and where his mother is from. He was then called up to the senior German team for the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers in March 2021. He made his debut on March 25, 2021, in a 3–0 win against Iceland.

Former Germany coach Joachim Löw later said he promised Jamal a spot in the Euro 2020 squad if he chose Germany. Löw said this was the only time he ever made such a promise to a player.

Euro 2020 Performance

On May 19, 2021, Musiala was chosen for the German squad for UEFA Euro 2020. On June 23, 2021, he became the youngest German player to play in a major tournament for the national team. He was 18 years and 117 days old. In a 2–2 draw with Hungary, Jamal helped set up Leon Goretzka's late goal, which allowed Germany to move to the next round. He played as a substitute in the next game against England, which Germany lost.

2022 World Cup Qualification and Debut

On October 11, 2021, Jamal scored his first goal for the senior international team in a 4–0 win against North Macedonia. This made him the second-youngest player to score for Germany, at 18 years and 227 days old.

On November 10, 2022, Musiala was called up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. On November 23, he played his first World Cup game against Japan. He became the first German teenager to play in the World Cup since 1958. He was the fourth youngest German player ever in World Cup history at 19 years and 270 days. In the same game, Youssoufa Moukoko came on as a substitute and became the youngest German player in World Cup history, making Musiala the fifth youngest. On December 1, Jamal completed 13 dribbles in a 4–2 win against Costa Rica. Even with this great performance, Germany was eliminated from the group stage.

Euro 2024 Success

On June 7, 2024, Musiala was named in Germany's squad for UEFA Euro 2024. On June 14, he was named Player of the Match in the opening game against Scotland. He scored a goal in Germany's 5–1 victory, becoming the second-youngest German player to score in the tournament. He scored again on June 19 against Hungary and on June 29 against Denmark in the round of 16. With 3 goals in the tournament, Jamal Musiala shared the Golden Boot award with five other players. He was also named in the UEFA European Championship Team of the Tournament.
