Jamal Musiala (born 26 February 2003) is a talented German footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder or winger. Jamal plays for the German club Bayern Munich. He also plays for the German national team.

Many people think Jamal is one of the best players in the world. He is known for his great passing and amazing dribbling skills. His close control of the ball earned him the nickname "Bambi". Jamal has played for Germany in big tournaments. These include UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2024. He even won the Golden Boot at Euro 2024, sharing the award with other top scorers.

Jamal's Early Life

Jamal Musiala was born in Stuttgart, Germany. His father, Daniel Richard, is Nigerian-British. His mother, Carolin Musiala, is German with Polish family roots. Jamal lived in Fulda, Germany, until he was seven years old.

Then, his family moved to England. He spent the rest of his childhood there. Jamal went to Corpus Christi School in New Malden. He played football for his school and local clubs. These clubs included Fulham, Brentford, and Wimbledon. He even won the EFL Utilita Kids Cup twice with his school team. For high school, he attended Whitgift School in Croydon.

Jamal spent his later childhood years in the Chelsea youth academy. He played for both Germany and England at youth levels. In February 2021, he decided to play for Germany's national team. When he was 16, Jamal and his mother moved back to Germany. This was for personal reasons and because of Brexit.

Club Football Career

Joining Bayern Munich

Starting Out: 2019–20 Season

In July 2019, when he was 16, Jamal Musiala left Chelsea. He joined the German club Bayern Munich. On 3 June 2020, Jamal played his first professional game. He came on as a substitute for Bayern Munich II. They won 3–2 against Preußen Münster.

On 20 June 2020, he made his debut in the Bundesliga. This is Germany's top football league. He played against SC Freiburg. At 17 years and 115 days old, he became the youngest player to ever play for Bayern in the Bundesliga. Jamal was also part of the team that won the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League. Even though he didn't play in any matches, he was part of the winning squad.

First-Team Star: 2020–21 Season

On 18 September 2020, Jamal scored his first Bundesliga goal. It was in an 8–0 win against Schalke. He became Bayern's youngest goal scorer ever. He was 17 years and 205 days old. This broke the record set by Roque Santa Cruz.

On 3 November, Jamal played his first Champions League game. He came on as a substitute for Thomas Müller. Bayern won 6–2 against Red Bull Salzburg. On 1 December, he started his first Champions League match. It was a 1–1 draw against Atlético Madrid.

On 23 February 2021, Jamal scored his first Champions League goal. Bayern won 4–1 against Lazio. He became the youngest player of both English and German nationality to score in the competition. He also became Bayern's youngest goal scorer in European games. On 5 March, he signed his first professional contract with Bayern Munich. This contract was until 2026.

Growing Stronger: 2021–2023 Seasons

On 25 August 2021, Jamal scored his first two goals of the new season. This was in a huge 12–0 win in the DFB-Pokal cup. Three days later, he scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season. Bayern won 5–0 against Hertha BSC. On 8 December 2021, Jamal scored his first Champions League goal of the season. Bayern won 3–0 against Barcelona.

On 23 April 2022, Jamal scored a goal that helped Bayern win the Bundesliga title. It was a 3–1 victory over Borussia Dortmund. This win gave Bayern their tenth league title in a row!

On 27 May 2023, Jamal scored the winning goal in the 89th minute. Bayern won 2–1 against FC Köln. This goal helped his club win their 11th straight league title. They won just ahead of rivals Dortmund. Jamal finished that season as Bayern's second-highest scorer in the league. He scored 12 goals.

Recent Success: 2024–Present

In the 2023–24 season, Jamal scored 13 goals in all competitions. Ten of these were in the Bundesliga. He was the second-highest scorer for his club, after Harry Kane.

On 30 October 2024, he scored his first career hat-trick. This means he scored three goals in one game. It was a 4–0 win against Mainz in the DFB-Pokal cup. On 14 February 2025, he extended his contract with Bayern until 2030.

Later, on 15 June 2025, he scored another hat-trick. This was in a 10–0 win against Auckland City during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He reached his personal best of 20 goals for the season. He later got the number 10 shirt for the 2025–26 season. This shirt was previously worn by Leroy Sané. On 5 July 2025, Jamal got a serious injury. He fractured his fibula and dislocated and broke his ankle. This happened after he collided with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. It was during the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

International Football Career

Jamal Musiala could have played for Nigeria because of his father. But he chose to play for both England and Germany at youth levels.

In November 2020, Jamal was called up to the England U21 squad. He played in their qualification matches for the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He made his U21 debut on 13 November 2020. He came on as a substitute in a 3–1 win over Andorra U21s. He scored his first U21 goal on 17 November 2020. This was in a 5–0 win against Albania.

After he chose to play for England's U21s, the German football association stopped trying to get him to play for Germany. Jamal had said he felt more comfortable playing for England. He grew up playing football at Chelsea with other English players. He didn't know any of the players on the German youth teams.

Senior National Team

On 24 February 2021, Jamal announced his decision. He would represent Germany, his birth nation and his mother's country. He was then called up to the senior team for the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers. He made his debut on 25 March 2021. He came on as a substitute in a 3–0 win against Iceland.

The former Germany coach, Joachim Löw, had promised Jamal a spot in the UEFA Euro 2020 team. This was if he chose Germany over England. Löw said it was the only time he made such a promise to a player.

Euro 2020

On 19 May 2021, Jamal was chosen for the German squad for UEFA Euro 2020. On 23 June 2021, he became the youngest German player to play in a major tournament. He was 18 years and 117 days old. This was in a 2–2 draw with Hungary. During the match, Jamal helped set up Leon Goretzka's late goal. This goal helped Germany move to the next round. He came on as a substitute in the next game against England. Germany lost that match.

2022 World Cup Qualifiers

On 11 October 2021, Jamal scored his first goal for the senior national team. It was in a 4–0 win over North Macedonia. He became the second-youngest player to score for Germany. He was 18 years and 227 days old. Only Marius Hiller was younger when he scored in 1910.

2022 FIFA World Cup

On 10 November 2022, Jamal was called up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. On 23 November, he played his first World Cup game. He started against Japan. He became the first German teenager to play in the World Cup since 1958. He was the fourth youngest German player in World Cup history. In the same match, Youssoufa Moukoko came on as a substitute. He became the youngest ever. Jamal completed 13 dribbles in a 4–2 win over Costa Rica. Germany was eliminated from the group stage, finishing third.

Euro 2024

On 7 June 2024, Jamal was named in Germany's squad for UEFA Euro 2024. On 14 June, he was named Player of the Match. This was in the opening game against Scotland. He scored a goal in a 5–1 victory. He became the second youngest German player to score in the tournament. His teammate Florian Wirtz was younger. He scored in the 68th minute for Germany against Denmark on 29 June. This was in the round of 16 game. Jamal scored three goals in the tournament. He was awarded the Golden Boot, sharing it with five other players.
