Leroy Aziz Sané (born 11 January 1996) is a German professional footballer. He plays as a winger for Bayern Munich and the Germany national team. Sané is famous for his amazing speed and dribbling skills.
He started his professional career with Schalke 04 in 2014. Later, he moved to Manchester City in 2016. There, he won the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2017–18. He was the first German player to win this award. He also helped City win the Premier League and EFL Cup.
Sané first played for the German national team in November 2015. He was part of the team that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016.

Early Life and Family
Leroy Sané was born on January 11, 1996, in Essen, Germany. He grew up near a stadium in Wattenscheid. His mother, Regina Weber, was a German rhythmic gymnast. She won a bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. His father, Souleymane Sané, was a footballer from Senegal. He played for the Senegalese national team.
Leroy was named after Claude Le Roy, a coach who worked with his father. His parents met when his father played for SG Wattenscheid 09. Leroy has two brothers, Kim and Sidi. They have also played football for youth teams in Germany.

Starting Out
Sané began playing football in 2001. He joined the youth team of SG Wattenscheid 09. In 2005, he moved to Schalke 04. Three years later, he joined Bayer Leverkusen. But in 2011, he returned to Schalke's youth academy.
Playing for Schalke 04
On March 21, 2014, Sané signed his first professional contract with Schalke. He played his first Bundesliga game on April 20, 2014. This was against VfB Stuttgart. He scored his first goal for Schalke on December 13, 2014. This was in a game against 1. FC Köln.
A big moment for him was on March 11, 2015. He scored in his first UEFA Champions League match. Schalke won 4–3 against Real Madrid. Even though they won, Schalke was knocked out of the competition.
Time at Manchester City
First Season (2016–17)
On August 2, 2016, Sané joined Premier League club Manchester City. He signed a five-year contract. His transfer fee was about £37 million. He made his first appearance for City on September 10. This was in a game against Manchester United.
His first goal for Manchester City came on December 18, 2016. It was in a 2–1 win against Arsenal. He scored in many important games that season. This included matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco.
In July 2017, Sané had surgery on his nose. He said it was hard for him to breathe during games. This surgery made him miss the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. But he wanted to feel healthy for the next season.
Winning League Titles (2017–19)
Sané scored his first two goals of the 2017–18 season on September 9, 2017. This was in a 5–0 win against Liverpool. He continued to score and assist many goals. He even won the Premier League Player of the Month award in October 2017.
He helped Manchester City win the 2017–18 Premier League title. For his great performance, he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year. This award goes to the best young player in the league. He also had 15 assists, showing how good he was at setting up goals.
In the 2018–19 season, Sané kept playing well. He scored his first goal of the season on September 15, 2018. This was against Fulham. On January 3, 2019, he scored the winning goal against Liverpool. This was Liverpool's only league defeat that season.
On February 21, 2019, he played against his old club, Schalke. He scored a fantastic free kick from far away. He chose not to celebrate out of respect for his former team. In the next game against Schalke, he had three assists and scored a goal. This helped City win 7–0.
Injury Setback (2019–20)
Sané was often linked with a move to Bayern Munich. But during a game in August 2019, he got a serious injury. He tore a ligament in his knee. This meant he would be out for most of the season. The injury also stopped his move to Bayern Munich for a while. In June 2020, he decided not to extend his contract with Manchester City.
Joining Bayern Munich
On July 3, 2020, Sané signed a five-year deal with Bayern Munich. The transfer fee was about €45 million. He scored in his second game for Bayern. This was an 8–0 win against his old club, Schalke 04. On November 3, 2020, he scored his first Champions League goal for Bayern. This was in a 6–2 win against Red Bull Salzburg.
In the 2021–22 Champions League season, he scored six goals and made six assists. He scored three goals in two games against Benfica. On September 7, 2022, he scored a goal against Inter Milan. He was named Player of the Match. A month later, he scored two goals against Viktoria Plzeň. This was his 20th goal in the Champions League.
On September 20, 2023, Sané scored the first goal in a 4–3 win over Manchester United. He was named Man of the Match. This was also Bayern's first goal in the Champions League for the second year in a row against the same goalkeeper. He was named Bayern's Player of the Month for August.
Playing for Germany
Youth Teams
Sané was first called up to the Germany under-21 team in August 2015. He made his debut on September 3, 2015. This was in a 2–1 win against Denmark.
Senior National Team
Sané got his first call-up to the German senior team in November 2015. This was for a friendly game against France. Sané could also play for France because he has French citizenship. He played his first game on November 13, 2015.
He was chosen by coach Joachim Löw to play for Germany in UEFA Euro 2016. He played in one match during the tournament. He came on as a substitute in the semi-final against France.
Sané was not chosen for the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad. In September 2018, he left the team hotel. He said it was for "personal reasons." It was later shared that he left because his daughter was born.
On November 16, 2018, he scored his first goal for Germany. This was against Russia. Germany won the game 3–0.
He was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2020 in May 2021. He played in all four of Germany's matches. In November 2022, he was also named in the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. In June 2024, Sané was chosen for Germany's team for UEFA Euro 2024.
