Kron Stavik Gracie (born July 11, 1988) is a talented Brazilian and American mixed martial artist. He is also a skilled submission grappler and a dedicated instructor. Kron currently competes in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Kron is part of the famous Gracie family, known for developing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His father is Rickson Gracie, a highly respected master of BJJ. His grandfather was Hélio Gracie, one of the co-founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Kron started training in jiu-jitsu when he was very young. He became a two-time IBJJF World champion. He also won the Pan-American championship four times. He earned his black belt at just 19 years old. By 2008, Kron had an amazing record. He won 51 matches in a row by submission in big tournaments. He later won a silver medal at the World Championship in 2011. In 2013, he became the ADCC Submission Fighting World Champion.

Early Life and Training

Kron Gracie was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is the youngest son of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master, Rickson Gracie. Kron spent most of his life in Los Angeles. His father moved there in 1989. He began learning BJJ from his father as a child. He won his first competition as a yellow belt at age ten. Kron has two older sisters, Kauan and Kaulin.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Achievements

Early Wins: World and Pan Am Titles

When he was 16, Kron competed as a blue belt. He won the 2004 IBJJF American National Jiu-Jitsu Championship. After getting his purple belt, he won the 2005 Pan Championship. In 2006, he won both the IBJJF World Championship. He also won the CBJJO World Jiu-Jitsu Cup. Competing in grappling, Kron won the 2006 NAGA Championship. The next year, as a brown belt, he became world champion for the second time. He also became Pan American champion for the fourth time. He won double gold, both in his division and in the open class. At this point, Kron had an incredible 51-match submission streak.

Black Belt Success and ADCC Medals

In 2008, at 19, Kron earned his black belt from his father. In 2009, he won the European Championship. This was just days after his grandfather, Grandmaster Helio Gracie, passed away. He then won a silver medal at the 2009 Pan Championship. At the 2009 Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) grappling competition, he lost in the quarter-finals. Two years later, he won a bronze medal at the 2011 ADCC World competition. Kron became known as "Ice Cream Kron" because he was always so calm during his fights.

Super Fights and World Champion Title

Kron won a silver medal at the 2011 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. He submitted Leandro Lo but lost in the finals. At the 2012 Pan Am, he won two bronze medals. He also became the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo Superfight champion. In October 2012, Kron competed at Metamoris 1. He submitted Otávio Souza with an armbar.

In June 2013, Kron fought at Metamoris 2. He defeated Japanese MMA star Shinya Aoki with a guillotine choke. In October 2013, Kron won his division at the ADCC World Championship in Beijing. He submitted all his opponents, including Garry Tonon and JT Torres. He also submitted Otávio Souza in the final with a guillotine choke.

Mixed Martial Arts Career

Starting in Japan: Rizin Fighting

On February 24, 2014, Kron announced he would start an MMA career. He decided to fight at a lower weight class. He trained with the "Scrap Pack" in California. This group included fighters like Gilbert Melendez and the Diaz brothers, Nick and Nate Diaz. Kron made his MMA debut on December 23, 2014. He faced Hyung Soo-Kim and won by armbar in the first round.

Kron fought at the Rizin Fighting Federation World Tournament on December 31, 2015. He won by triangle choke in the first round. He continued his winning streak in Rizin. He defeated Hideo Tokoro and Tatsuya Kawajiri by rear-naked choke. This brought his professional MMA record to 4-0.

Joining the UFC

2018–2019: UFC Debut and Challenges

In November 2018, Kron signed with the UFC. He made his UFC debut on February 17, 2019. He faced Alex Caceres and won by rear-naked choke in the first round. This win earned him a Performance of the Night award.

Kron then faced Cub Swanson on October 12, 2019. He lost this fight by a unanimous decision. This fight earned him a Fight of the Night bonus. Many people were surprised that Kron chose to strike with Swanson. They thought he would have had an advantage if he had taken the fight to the ground. Members of the Gracie family, including his father Rickson, later talked about this decision.

2023: Return to the Octagon

After a four-year break, Kron returned to the UFC on May 6, 2023. He fought Charles Jourdain at UFC 288. Kron lost the fight by unanimous decision. Some people, including UFC president Dana White, felt that Kron's performance was "very limited."

2024: Latest Fight

Kron Gracie faced Bryce Mitchell on December 7, 2024, at UFC 310. He lost the fight by knockout in the third round. This was the first time he lost a fight by stoppage in his MMA career.

Personal Life and Teaching

When he is not competing, Kron Gracie teaches jiu-jitsu. He used to have a school in Culver City, California. He also helped run his father's jiu-jitsu association. In January 2021, Kron announced he was closing his California academy. He moved to Montana to open a new BJJ school. This move was due to the COVID-19 rules in California.

In 2024, Kron released his first online Jiu-Jitsu instructional course. It was called Fundamentals of Guard-Passing. The course received good reviews.
