List of presidents of Peru

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

This page lists the people who have been the President of Peru. The President is both the head of state and head of government for the country. This important role started after Peru gained its independence. The first official president was José de la Riva Agüero.

Peru's history of presidents has seen many changes. There have been times when leaders took control without elections, or when the government faced big challenges. These events shaped the country's path. The list also includes important historical figures like José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar. They were not officially presidents but played a huge part in Peru becoming an independent nation.

José Jerí became the President of Peru on October 10, 2025. Before him, Dina Boluarte served as president, and she was the first woman to hold this important office.
