List of presidents of Peru facts for kids
Peru is a country in South America, and like many countries, it has a leader called the President. The President of Peru is both the head of state (the main representative of the country) and the head of government (the person in charge of running the country's daily affairs).
The idea of having a President in Peru started a long time ago, after José de San Martín stepped down from his role as "Protector of Peru" and left the country. The first official President was José de la Riva Agüero. Today, the President is Dina Boluarte, who is the first woman to hold this important position in Peru's history.
Peru's history of presidents has seen many changes. There have been times of political challenges, strong leaders (sometimes called caudillos), military takeovers, civil wars, and even times when a president died in office or was removed by the congress. This list is based on historical records and laws.
Even though they weren't officially called "presidents," important figures like San Martín and Simón Bolívar are included here. They played a huge role in Peru gaining its independence and becoming a strong nation.
