The KATAHDIN is a special lake boat on Moosehead Lake in Greenville. It was listed in 1978. This boat is a floating piece of history! It used to carry passengers and cargo across the lake. It's a great example of old transportation.

Tramway Historic District

Northeast of Greenville, you'll find the Tramway Historic District. This area was listed in 1979. It's important because it shows how logs were moved across land between lakes. It was a clever way to transport timber in the past.

Former Listings

Sometimes, places are removed from the National Register. This can happen if they are destroyed or changed too much.

  • Walter and Eva Burgess Farm: This farm in Dover-Foxcroft was sadly destroyed by a fire in 2013. It was removed from the list in 2015.
  • Low's (Lowes) Bridge: This old covered bridge over the Piscataquis River was washed away by a flood in 1987. It has since been rebuilt, but the original historic structure was lost.
