Princess Leia Organa is a brave and important character from the Star Wars movies. She is played by the actress Carrie Fisher. Leia is known as a princess, a senator, and later a general. She fights for freedom in the galaxy.
Leia first appeared in the original Star Wars movie in 1977. She is the princess of the planet Alderaan. Leia also works as a senator in the Imperial Senate. Secretly, she is a spy for the Rebel Alliance. She helps to defeat the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. She also plays a big part in destroying the Empire's giant weapon, the Death Star.
In The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Leia leads a Rebel base. She falls in love with the smuggler, Han Solo. In Return of the Jedi (1983), Leia helps rescue Han from the crime boss Jabba the Hutt. It is also revealed that she is Darth Vader's daughter. She is the twin sister of Luke Skywalker.
The movie Revenge of the Sith (2005) shows that Leia's birth mother was Senator Padmé Amidala. Padmé was also a former queen of Naboo. Padmé died after Leia and Luke were born. Leia was adopted by Senator Bail Organa and Queen Breha Organa of Alderaan.
In the newer movies, The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017), Leia is a general. She leads the Resistance against a new evil group called the First Order. Leia and Han Solo have a son named Ben. Sadly, Ben turns to the dark side of the Force and becomes Kylo Ren.
Leia is one of the most popular Star Wars characters. Many people see her as a strong female hero. She has inspired many other adventure heroines in movies and stories. Her unique "cinnamon bun" hairstyle and her outfit from Jabba the Hutt's palace are very famous.
