The South African Grand Prix was a famous motor racing event. It was first held in 1934. The race took place at the Prince George Circuit in East London, South Africa.

The races stopped for a while because of World War II. They started again in 1962 as part of the exciting Formula One series. It became a very popular F1 event.

However, the races stopped again after 1985. This was because many countries chose not to participate in events in South Africa. They were protesting against a policy called apartheid. This policy created unfair rules based on race.

After apartheid ended in 1991, the Grand Prix returned. Two more races were held in 1992 and 1993.
