Tomasz "Tomek" Adamek (born December 1, 1976) is a famous Polish former professional boxer. He competed in boxing matches from 1999 to 2018. Tomasz Adamek won world championships in two different weight classes. He held the WBC light heavyweight title from 2005 to 2007. He also held the IBF and The Ring magazine cruiserweight titles from 2008 to 2009. In 2007, he won the IBO cruiserweight title. In 2011, he even fought for the WBC heavyweight title. Many people consider Adamek one of the greatest Polish boxers of all time. He was the first Polish boxer to win The Ring title.

Early Life of Tomasz Adamek
Tomasz Adamek was born in Żywiec, Poland. Later in his life, he lived in Kearny, New Jersey, in the United States.
Tomasz Adamek's Boxing Career
Tomasz Adamek started his professional boxing career on March 13, 1999. His first fight was in Manchester, England, against Israel Khumalo. Adamek won this fight by a technical knockout (TKO) in the very first round.
Light-Heavyweight Division
Becoming WBC Light-Heavyweight Champion
Adamek won the WBC light-heavyweight title on May 21, 2005. He defeated Paul "Firepower" Briggs in a tough fight. Many people said this fight was very intense. Both boxers were injured during the match. Adamek was the more aggressive fighter and won the title.
He defended his title on October 15, 2005, against German boxer Thomas Ulrich. Adamek won this fight by knockout in the sixth round. In 2006, he fought Paul Briggs again. Adamek won the rematch by decision, keeping his title.
Adamek vs. Chad Dawson
Tomasz Adamek had a perfect record of 31 wins and no losses before his fight with Chad Dawson. On February 3, 2007, Adamek lost his first professional fight to Dawson. Dawson won by a unanimous decision. Adamek was knocked down in the seventh round. He also knocked Dawson down in the tenth round. However, Dawson managed to recover and win the fight. After this loss, Adamek decided to move up to the cruiserweight division.
Cruiserweight Division
After moving to cruiserweight, Adamek quickly started winning again. He defeated Luis Andres Pineda by technical knockout. On December 29, 2007, he also beat Josip Jalusic in Germany.
Adamek vs. O'Neil Bell
On April 19, 2008, Adamek fought former champion O'Neil Bell in Poland. This fight was to decide who would get a chance to fight for the IBF Cruiserweight title. Adamek knocked Bell down in the first round. He continued to outbox Bell. Bell decided not to continue the fight after the seventh round because he felt dizzy.
Winning IBF and The Ring Cruiserweight Titles
In December 2008, Adamek fought Steve Cunningham for the IBF and The Ring cruiserweight titles. The fight took place in Newark, New Jersey. Adamek knocked Cunningham down three times during the fight. He won the titles in what many called the "fight of the year."
Adamek successfully defended his titles against Johnathon Banks on February 27, 2009. He won with a powerful technical knockout in the eighth round. He then defeated Bobby Gunn on July 11, 2009. The referee stopped the fight after the fourth round because of the doctor's advice.
On October 18, 2009, Adamek gave up his IBF title. He decided to move up to the heavyweight division.
Heavyweight Division
On October 24, 2009, in Łódź, Poland, Adamek defeated Andrew Golota. He won by technical knockout in the fifth round. This win earned him the IBF "International" Heavyweight Title. On February 6, 2010, he defeated Jason Estrada by unanimous decision after 12 rounds.
Adamek then faced Chris Arreola on April 24, 2010, in California. Adamek weighed less than Arreola. The Polish fighter won by a majority decision after twelve rounds.
In 2010, Tomasz Adamek was the first Polish person to win the "Muhammad Ali Athlete Award."
Adamek continued his winning streak in the heavyweight division. He defeated veteran American boxer Michael Grant by unanimous decision on August 21, 2010. In his first fight of 2011, Adamek defeated Irishman Kevin McBride by a clear unanimous decision.
Adamek vs. Vitali Klitschko
On September 10, 2011, Adamek fought the WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. The fight took place in Poland. Adamek lost by technical knockout in the tenth round. This was the first ever pay-per-view fight in Polish TV history. The referee stopped the fight because Adamek was taking too many hits and could no longer defend himself.
Fights After Klitschko
Adamek returned to boxing on March 24, 2012. He defeated Nagy Aguilera by unanimous decision. He then fought former heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers. Adamek won this fight by unanimous decision after twelve rounds.
On September 8, 2012, Adamek defeated Travis Walker. The referee stopped the fight in the fifth round, giving Adamek a technical knockout win.
Adamek had a very close fight with Steve Cunningham on December 22, 2012. Adamek won by a split decision. There was a mistake in the judges' scores at first, but it was corrected, and Adamek was declared the winner. On March 15, 2014, Adamek lost to Vyacheslav Glazkov by unanimous decision. He lost his IBF North American heavyweight title in this fight.
Adamek vs. Solomon Haumono
On June 24, 2017, Adamek defeated Solomon Haumono. He won by unanimous decision after ten rounds.
Adamek vs. Fred Kassi
On November 18, 2017, Adamek fought and defeated Fred Kassi. He won by unanimous decision after ten rounds.
Adamek vs. Jarrell Miller
On October 6, 2018, Adamek fought heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller. Miller was a highly ranked boxer at the time. Miller knocked Adamek down twice in the second round. After the second knockdown, the referee stopped the fight. Adamek was disoriented but managed to get back on his feet.
Adamek vs. Mamed Khalidov
On February 24, 2024, Tomasz Adamek fought Mamed Khalidov in a boxing match. This fight was part of a mixed martial arts event. Adamek won the fight after the third round. Khalidov had to stop because he suffered a hand injury.
