Roman Empire News
- People living in Illyria started a rebellion against the Romans. They wanted to be free from Roman rule.
- At the same time, people from Pannonia and Dalmatia, along with other Illyrian tribes, also rebelled against the Romans.
- Emperor Augustus removed Herod Archelaus from his position as the leader of Judea.
- Publius Quinctilius Varus was chosen to be the new governor of Germany for the Romans.
- Another Roman official, Tiberius Quinctilius Varus, was given the job of organizing the Roman areas in Germany. These areas were located between the Rhine and Elba rivers.
- He took a count of the people (a census), set up taxes, and recruited soldiers. These actions made many German people very unhappy.
- Abgarus of Edessa was removed from his position as king of Osroene.
- Work began on building the Temple of Concordia in Rome. This temple was dedicated to the Roman goddess of agreement and harmony.
Events in Asia
- Vonones I from the Arsacid family became the new ruler of Parthia, a powerful empire in ancient Asia.
- In China, a governor named Zhai Yi started a large rebellion. He declared Liu Xin, a marquess, as the new emperor. This was the biggest challenge to Emperor Ruzi of Han.
- During the winter, Wang Mang, a powerful official, successfully stopped this rebellion. Zhai Yi was captured and executed, but Liu Xin managed to escape.
Arts and Learning in 7 AD
- The famous writer Strabo is believed to have written his important book called Geographia around this time. This book described the geography of the world as it was known then.
- The historian Livy was chosen to teach Claudius about history. Claudius later became an emperor himself.
- Claudius started writing his own history book about the Roman Civil Wars. However, his writings were critical of Emperor Augustus.
- Because of this, Livia and Antonia Minor made him stop his work. This also hurt his chances of becoming more powerful in politics.
