Cologny is a town in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. It's known for being a beautiful place on the shores of Lake Geneva. Many famous people have lived or visited here. Today, Cologny is one of the richest towns in the Geneva area.

History of Cologny
Cologny was first mentioned in records way back in 1208. But people lived here much earlier! The oldest signs of a settlement are from the Neolithic age, found near a village called La Belotte. This was a lakeside village from a very long time ago.
Roman Times and Middle Ages
The Romans took over the Lake Geneva area in the 2nd century. They built a road through Cologny, connecting different towns.
Later, during the Middle Ages, Cologny was part of the lands belonging to the Counts of Geneva. Then, it became part of the area controlled by the Bishop of Geneva. The local church, Saint Peter, was likely built before the 15th century.
The Reformation and Famous Visitors
In 1536, Cologny joined the Protestant Reformation. This was a big religious change that made Geneva a center for the new faith. Two years later, Cologny became part of the city of Geneva.
In the late 1500s and 1600s, many book publishers from Geneva moved to Cologny. They did this to get around French laws that banned books from Geneva.
Starting in the 1700s, beautiful houses called chalets began to appear along Lake Geneva in Cologny. One of the most famous is Villa Diodati. In 1816, famous writers like Lord Byron, Mary Shelley, and Percy Bysshe Shelley stayed there. It was a very rainy summer, so they spent days indoors telling scary stories. This led to Mary Shelley writing Frankenstein and John Polidori writing The Vampyre, the first modern vampire story!
Modern Cologny
In the 20th century, many wealthy people and important organizations moved to Cologny. The town used to have many small villages and farms. But by 1975, there were only two working farms left. Today, Cologny is known as one of the richest towns in the Canton of Geneva.
Geography of Cologny
Cologny is located on the left side of Lake Geneva. It covers an area of about 3.67 square kilometers (1.4 square miles).
Most of the land in Cologny is used for buildings and roads. About 78.5% of the area is settled. A smaller part, about 17.7%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 4.1% of the land. There is also a small amount of land with rivers or lakes.
The town includes the main village of Cologny and several smaller areas called hamlets, like La Belotte and Ruth. You'll mostly find large, beautiful homes (villa-style houses) here. There are also some small shops. Cologny is also home to the Geneva Golf Club.
