Crush is a popular brand of fizzy drinks that many people enjoy! It's owned by a company called Keurig Dr Pepper. Crush first started as an orange soda called Orange Crush. It's a big competitor to another well-known orange soda, Fanta.
A chemist named Neil C. Ward created the recipe for Crush in 1911. Most flavors of Crush do not have caffeine.
The Story of Crush
In 1911, a man named Clayton J. Howel started the Orange Crush Company. He teamed up with Neil C. Ward, who had created the special recipe for Orange Crush.
At first, soft drinks often used the inventor's last name. Since Howel had already used his name for another drink, Ward got the honor. So, Crush was first known as Ward's Orange Crush.
When it first came out, Orange Crush actually had tiny bits of orange pulp in the bottles! This made it look like the drink was freshly squeezed, even though the pulp was added later. Don't worry, the pulp hasn't been in the bottles for many years now!
Over the years, the Crush brand changed owners a few times. In 1980, Procter & Gamble bought Crush. Then, in 1989, Cadbury Schweppes took over. Finally, in 2008, the company that now owns Crush, Keurig Dr Pepper, became its owner.
The bottles for Crush have also changed over time. They used to have a ribbed design and were even made of brown glass for a while! In 1937, the "Krinkly Brown" bottle was introduced. But by 1955, the bottle design became smoother and clearer.
Crush Around the World Today
Today, the Crush brand is owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, which is based in Texas, USA. Crush is also very popular in Canada.
You can find Crush in many other countries too, like Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, and Syria. In some places, like Chile, a company called Compañía de Cervecerías Unidas has been distributing Crush since the 1940s. Interestingly, in some parts of Latin America, The Coca-Cola Company distributes Crush, and it even looks similar to Fanta there!
In North America, you can usually find popular flavors like Orange, Grape, Strawberry, and Pineapple. But some flavors are only sold in certain areas. For example, Pineapple Crush and Birch Beer Crush are very popular in Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada.
