Daniel Olmo Carvajal (born on May 7, 1998) is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder or left winger. Currently, he plays for the La Liga club Barcelona and the Spain national team.
Dani Olmo started his youth career at La Masia, Barcelona's famous academy. He then made his professional debut for Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia in 2015. He played 124 games for the club, scoring 34 goals. During his time there, he helped them win the Croatian league five times and the cup three times. In 2020, he moved to RB Leipzig in Germany. With Leipzig, he won two DFB-Pokal cups in 2022 and 2023. He also won the 2023 DFL-Supercup, where he scored three goals. In 2024, he returned to his boyhood club, Barcelona.
Olmo has also achieved great success with the Spanish national teams. He won the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with the Spain under-21 team. He also earned a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games. He first played for the senior national team in 2019. He was part of the teams that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 and won the 2023 UEFA Nations League. Most recently, he was a key player when Spain won UEFA Euro 2024, where he was one of the top goal scorers.

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Dani Olmo was born in Terrassa, a city near Barcelona, Catalonia. He joined Barcelona's youth academy when he was nine years old. Before that, he played for their local rivals, Espanyol.
Time at Dinamo Zagreb
In a surprising move, Olmo joined Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia on July 31, 2014, at just 16 years old. He played his first senior game for them on February 7, 2015. He came on as a substitute in a 2–1 win against Lokomotiva Zagreb. On September 22, he scored his first goal in a big 7–1 cup win.
Olmo signed a new four-year contract on August 22, 2016. He scored three goals in four games as his team finished second in the cup. This included a goal in the final match. He also scored his first league goal against Rijeka in a 5–2 home win.
In September 2018, Olmo helped Dinamo Zagreb win 4–1 against Fenerbahçe in the Europa League. He was named the best player in the Croatian league for 2018. He also ranked 11th in the Tuttosport Golden Boy award that year.
On February 14, 2019, he scored the only goal for his team in a Europa League game. In June, he was named the best player and best young player of the 2018–19 Croatian league season.
He made his Champions League debut on September 18, 2019, in a 4–0 win against Atalanta. He scored his first Champions League goal on October 22 in a 2–2 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Playing for RB Leipzig

On January 25, 2020, Olmo joined the German club RB Leipzig. He signed a four-year contract. He played his first game a week later in a 2–2 draw. On February 4, he scored his first goal for Leipzig in a cup match.
Olmo started his first game for Leipzig on February 9, 2020, in a goalless draw against Bayern Munich. On June 12, he scored both goals in a 2–0 victory. On August 13, he scored the first goal in a 2–1 win against Atlético Madrid. This win helped Leipzig reach the Champions League semi-final for the first time.
Olmo played a key role in RB Leipzig winning the DFB-Pokal cup in the 2021–22 season. He scored a goal in a 2–0 win in the last 16. In the final on May 21, he came on as a substitute. He scored in the penalty shoot-out, helping his team win after a 1–1 draw. On July 30, he scored a goal in the 2022 DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich.
On August 12, 2023, Olmo scored an amazing three goals (a hat-trick) in the 2023 DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich. His goals were the only ones in the match, securing the win for Leipzig.
Coming Back to Barcelona
On August 9, 2024, Dani Olmo returned to his childhood club, Barcelona. He signed a six-year contract. The deal was reportedly worth around €60 million.
He made his debut for Barcelona on August 27, 2024. He had missed earlier games because of issues with player registration. He came off the bench and scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute against Rayo Vallecano, giving Barcelona a 2–1 away win. On November 3, he scored his fourth and fifth goals for Barcelona in a 3–1 win against Espanyol. On November 26, he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal for Barcelona in a 3–0 victory.
International Career
Youth Team Success
Olmo was part of the Spanish squad at the 2015 European Under-17 Championship. He scored in a penalty shoot-out during the quarter-finals. In October 2018, he made his debut for the Spain U21 team.
Olmo was a key player in Spain's squad that won the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He played four matches, providing one assist and scoring three goals. He even scored in the final and was named Man of the Match.
Playing for the Senior Team
Olmo received his first call-up to the senior team in November 2019. This was for Euro 2020 qualifiers. He made his debut on November 15, coming on as a substitute. He scored three minutes later in a big 7–0 home victory over Malta.
On May 24, 2021, Olmo was chosen for Spain's squad for UEFA Euro 2020. In the round of 16 match against Croatia, he provided two assists in extra time. On July 2, in the quarter-final against Switzerland, he successfully scored his penalty in the shoot-out, helping Spain win. However, in the semi-final against Italy, he missed his penalty in another shoot-out, and Italy won.
Olmo was also part of Spain's squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics. On Spain's journey to a silver medal, Olmo contributed an assist in a 1–1 draw. He also scored a goal and provided an assist in a 5–2 victory. He started in the final match, where Spain lost 2–1 to Brazil.
On November 11, 2022, Olmo was selected for Spain's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In their first group stage match against Costa Rica, Olmo scored the first goal and assisted another. Spain won 7–0, which was their biggest win ever at a World Cup. He also played in matches against Germany and Japan. He started in the round of 16 match against Morocco, which Spain lost after a penalty shoot-out.
On June 7, 2024, Olmo was chosen for the UEFA Euro 2024 squad. He scored his first goal in the tournament in a 4–1 win over Georgia. In the quarter-final against Germany, he was named player of the match. He scored a goal and provided an assist in a 2–1 victory. Olmo scored his third goal of the tournament in a 2–1 win over France. In the final against England, he made a crucial goal-line clearance. With 3 goals, he was one of the top scorers of the tournament.
Personal Life
Dani Olmo's father, Miquel, was also a footballer. He played as a forward for lower-league teams. Dani's older brother, Carlos, is also a footballer and plays as a defender. Carlos spent several years playing in Croatia. Dani Olmo is very good at languages; he speaks Spanish, Catalan, English, German, and Croatian fluently.
