Daniel "Dani" Olmo Carvajal (born on May 7, 1998) is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder or left winger. Currently, he plays for the La Liga club Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Dani Olmo started his youth career at La Masia, which is Barcelona's famous youth academy. Later, he made his professional debut for Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia in 2015. He played 124 games for the club, scoring 34 goals. During his time there, he helped them win the Croatian league five times and the Croatian cup three times.
In 2020, Dani joined RB Leipzig in Germany. With Leipzig, he won the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) twice, in 2022 and 2023. He also won the German Supercup in 2023, where he scored three goals in one game! In 2024, he returned to his childhood club, Barcelona.
Olmo has also had a very successful international career with Spain. He won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2019. He also earned a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games. He first played for the senior national team in 2019. He was part of the teams that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 and won the UEFA Nations League in 2023. Most recently, he was a key player when Spain won Euro 2024, where he was one of the top goal scorers.

Club Journey
Starting Out
Dani Olmo was born in Terrassa, a city in Catalonia, Spain. He joined Barcelona's youth academy when he was nine years old. Before that, he played for their local rivals, Espanyol.
Time in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb
In a surprising move, Olmo joined Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia on July 31, 2014, when he was just 16. He played his first game for the senior team on February 7, 2015. He came on as a substitute in a 2–1 win against Lokomotiva Zagreb. On September 22, he scored his first goal in a big 7–1 cup win.
On August 22, 2016, Olmo signed a new four-year contract with Dinamo. He scored three goals in four cup games, helping his team reach the final. He scored in the 3–1 loss to Rijeka in the final. A few days earlier, he scored his first league goal against the same team.
Olmo was a star in the Europa League. He set up a goal and scored another in a 4–1 win over Fenerbahçe in September 2018. In December, he was named the best player in the Croatian league for 2018. He also ranked high in the Tuttosport Golden Boy award.
In February 2019, he scored the only goal for Dinamo in a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzeň. In June, he was named the best player and best young player of the 2018–19 Croatian league season.
On September 18, 2019, he played his first Champions League game. Dinamo won 4–0 against Atalanta. He scored his first Champions League goal on October 22 in a 2–2 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk. He also scored against Manchester City, but Dinamo lost that game.
Moving to Germany with RB Leipzig

On January 25, 2020, Olmo joined Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. He signed a four-year contract. He played his first game a week later in a 2–2 draw. On February 4, he scored his first goal for Leipzig in a cup game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Olmo started his first game for Leipzig on February 9, 2020, in a 0–0 draw against Bayern Munich. On June 12, he scored both goals in a 2–0 win against 1899 Hoffenheim. On August 13, he scored the first goal in a 2–1 win over Atlético Madrid. This helped Leipzig reach the Champions League semi-final for the first time ever!
Dani Olmo played a big part in RB Leipzig winning the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in 2021–22. He scored a goal in the last 16. In the final on May 21, he came on as a substitute. The game ended 1–1, and he scored in the penalty shootout to help Leipzig win. On July 30, he scored a goal in the 2022 DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich.
On August 12, 2023, Olmo scored an amazing hat-trick (three goals) in the 2023 DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich. His goals were the only ones in the match, securing the trophy for Leipzig.
Coming Home to Barcelona
On August 9, 2024, Dani Olmo made a big move back to his youth club, Barcelona. He signed a six-year contract. The deal was reportedly worth around €60 million.
He made his debut for Barcelona on August 27, 2024. He came off the bench against Rayo Vallecano and scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute. This gave Barcelona a 2–1 away win. On November 3, after coming back from an injury, Olmo scored two goals against Espanyol. On November 26, he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal for Barcelona in a 3–0 win over Brest.
For a short time, there were issues with registering Olmo and his teammate Pau Víctor. This meant they could have become free agents. However, on January 8, 2025, the Spanish sports council approved their registration. This means both players can now play for Barcelona in all competitions.
Playing for Spain
Youth Teams
Olmo played for the Spanish Under-17 team in the 2015 European Under-17 Championship. He scored in a penalty shootout in the quarter-finals, but Spain lost. Later, he made his debut for the Spain Under-21 team in October 2018.
Olmo was a key player for Spain's Under-21 squad that won the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He played four matches, helped with one goal, and scored three goals himself. He even scored in the final and was named the best player of that game.
Senior National Team
Dani Olmo was called up to the senior national team for the first time in November 2019. He debuted on November 15, coming on as a substitute and scoring three minutes later. This was in a big 7–0 win against Malta.
On May 24, 2021, Olmo was chosen for Spain's squad for UEFA Euro 2020. In the round of 16 against Croatia, he provided two assists in extra time to help Spain win 5–3. In the quarter-final against Switzerland, he scored his penalty in the shootout, which Spain won 3–1. In the semi-final against Italy, he assisted a goal, but Spain lost the penalty shootout.
Olmo was also part of the Spanish team that won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He assisted a goal against Argentina and scored one goal and assisted another against Ivory Coast. He started in the final, where Spain lost to Brazil.
On November 11, 2022, Olmo was picked for Spain's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In their first game against Costa Rica, he scored the first goal and helped with another in a huge 7–0 win. This was Spain's biggest World Cup victory ever! He also played in games against Germany and Japan. Spain lost to Morocco in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout.
On June 7, 2024, Olmo was selected for the UEFA Euro 2024 squad. He scored his first goal in the tournament in a 4–1 win over Georgia. In the quarter-final against Germany, he was named player of the match, scoring a goal and assisting another in a 2–1 victory. Olmo scored his third goal of the tournament in a 2–1 win over France. In the final against England, he made a crucial save on the goal line. With 3 goals, he was one of the top scorers of the tournament.
About Dani's Family
Dani Olmo's father, Miquel, used to be a footballer too. He played as a forward for smaller teams. Dani's older brother, Carlos, is also a footballer and plays as a defender. Carlos played in Croatia for several years, including for Dinamo's reserve team. Dani Olmo is very good at languages; he speaks Spanish, Catalan, English, German, and Croatian fluently.
