History of Lincoln County
Lincoln County was started in 1809. It was formed from parts of Bedford County. The land for the county was given up by the Cherokee and Chickasaw Native American tribes in 1806.
A special way of making Tennessee whiskey is called the Lincoln County Process. It got its name from this county. The famous Jack Daniel Distillery was first located here. But later, the county lines were changed. This created Moore County, where the distillery is now.
Another distillery, Benjamin Pritchard's Distillery, opened in Lincoln County in 1997. However, it does not use the Lincoln County Process. In 2013, a law was made that said all Tennessee whiskey must use this process. But Benjamin Pritchard's Distillery was allowed to continue its own way because of an old rule. Today, Southern Pride Distillery is the only one in Lincoln County that still uses the Lincoln County Process to make whiskey.
