The Prime Minister of Egypt is a very important job, like being the head of the government. This role was officially created in 1878. At that time, Isma'il Pasha, who was a ruler of Egypt, decided to give some of his power to a group of ministers, similar to how European governments worked. Nubar Pasha became the first Prime Minister in this modern system.

Egypt has a long history of having a top official helping the main ruler. In ancient Egypt, during the Old, Middle, and New Kingdom times, the Pharaoh often chose a "Vizier". This Vizier was like a second-in-command, helping to run the country. Later, under different Islamic empires, Egypt also had Viziers, who were similar to prime ministers. This tradition of having a prime minister-like role was paused only when Egypt was directly ruled by governors from the Roman and Sasanian empires.

In Arabic, the official name for the Prime Minister means "President of the Ministers". It's important not to confuse this with the President of Egypt, which is a different leader. The current Prime Minister of Egypt is Mostafa Madbouly, who has been in office since June 7, 2018.
