Mon Colle Knights, known in Japan as Six Gates Far Away Mon Colle Knight (六門天外モンコレナイト), is an exciting Japanese manga and anime series. It was created by Satoru Akahori and Katsumi Hasegawa, with art by Hideaki Nishikawa. The story is based on the popular Monster Collection trading card game.

The anime TV show was made by Studio Deen. It first aired in Japan from January to December 2000, with 51 episodes and a movie. In North America, a version of Mon Colle Knights was shown on Fox Kids from July 2001 to September 2002. This version had 45 episodes. Later, it was shown again on Toon Disney's Jetix in 2006.

In 2020, the original Japanese anime became available on Crunchyroll. The English version is harder to find because the original recordings were lost. However, the creators are still looking for them!

Story of Mon Colle Knights

The series follows two main characters: Mondo Ooya and his friend (and crush) Rockna Hiiragi. Rockna's dad, Professor Ichiroubei Hiiragi, is a super smart scientist. He invented a way to travel to a magical place called Mon World (also known as the Six Gate World). This world is full of amazing creatures!

Mondo and Rockna become the Mon Colle Knights. Their mission is to find six special monster items. If they combine these items, they can connect Mon World with Earth. They hope this will make both worlds better and bring peace. When they say a special phrase—"With us, you can do it!"—they can even merge with monsters and control them in battles!

But it's not easy! They often have to fight Professor Hiiragi's rival, Prince Eccentro. Prince Eccentro is a bit silly, but he and his two helpers, Gluko and Batch, want the same items. They plan to use them to take over both worlds!

Meet the Characters

The Mon Colle Knights Team

  • Mondo Ooya (大矢 門斗): Mondo is one of the main heroes. He's an elementary school student who loves adventure. Mondo wants to collect the Mon items to bring peace and friendship between his world and Mon World. He's outgoing and determined, but sometimes he flirts with other girls, which makes Rockna a bit jealous! His name "Mon" is part of the show's title.
  • Rokuna Hiiragi (柊 六奈) / Rockna Hiiragi: Rockna is Mondo's super smart friend and classmate. She shares Mondo's goal of uniting the two worlds. Rockna has a special power: she can talk to monsters using her mind! She gets easily jealous when Mondo flirts with other girls, and she's not afraid to show it! Her name "Roku" is also part of the show's Japanese title.
  • Professor Ichiroubei Hiiragi (柊 一郎兵衛): He is Rockna's dad and a very quirky mad scientist. He discovered Mon World and hopes to win many awards by sharing it with the human world. His lab is right across from Mondo and Rockna's school.
  • Jāne (ジャーネ) / Lovestar: Lovestar is a cute, pale pink, hamster-like monster with a red star on its back. Rockna adopted Lovestar. In the Japanese version, its name "Jāne" came from Rockna trying to say "goodbye" (Jā ne) to it!
  • Punchpunch (パンチパンチ): A tiny monkey monster that loves to punch things!
  • Cluckputer: This is Professor Hiiragi's super computer, which looks like a chicken! It helps the Professor and makes chicken noises when monsters are nearby.

Prince Eccentro's Team

  • Prince Ludwig Von Monsterstein Eccentro (ルードヴィヒ・ブレスト・フォン・マインシュタイン・コレクション): Prince Eccentro is one of the main bad guys, but he's not very scary! He's a young, fancy aristocrat from Europe who wants to take over Mon World. He's often silly and dramatic. He invented the Skeitso Beam, which he uses to control monsters. When he fails, his mentor Tanaka punishes him with tough exercises! His secret dream is to become a world-famous belly dancer.
  • Teddyarenaut: A bear-like computer created by Eccentro. It's like the Cluckputer for the bad guys and has a Skeitso Beam built in.
  • Bachi (バッチィ) / Batch: Batch is Eccentro's tough and sarcastic helper. She's more serious about being evil than Eccentro or Gluko. She often argues with Eccentro but always follows his orders. She loves to exercise!
  • Guuko (グーコ) / Gluko: Gluko is Eccentro's friendly helper. She's a bit air-headed but very lucky, often avoiding punishment from Tanaka. She carries a book about Mon World and its creatures. She later adopts a Forest Imp named Impy.
  • Chuzaemon Takenaka (竹中 忠左衛門) / Tanaka: Tanaka is a small, old man who trains Prince Eccentro. He punishes Eccentro for his mistakes with hard exercises. Tanaka seems to pop up everywhere!
  • Repuri (レプリちゃん) / Impy: Impy is a cheerful young Forest Imp and Gluko's pet. He doesn't talk much, mostly asking short questions or repeating what Gluko says. Impy has psychic powers and often accidentally makes Eccentro's ship explode by fiddling with buttons!

Other Important Characters

  • Namiko Gokumare (極稀 並子) / Naomi Loon: Mondo and Rockna's teacher. She's a nice lady but has a short temper and bad luck with love. She's also a skilled fighter!
  • Beginner (ビギナーちゃん): A cute but clumsy girl who is learning to summon monsters. She's powerful, but her aim is terrible, often hurting her friends by accident. She frequently summons a giant meteor that destroys things! She's a friend of Mondo and Rockna.
  • Lailai (ライライ): A young girl who travels the world with many small monsters hidden in her coat. She gave Lovestar to Rockna.
  • Songstress of the Flower Garden (花園の歌姫) / Kahimi: An elf maiden with very long hair. She becomes a good friend to the Mon Colle Knights, helping them with her ability to grow plants and control the winds.
  • Luke (ルーク): A friend of Beginner's who also goes to the summoning school. Luke has a secret crush on Beginner and sees Mondo as his rival. He can be a bit of a crybaby but is brave when needed.
  • Lambda (ランダ): A purple sheep who is Luke's friend.
  • Zaha (ザッハ) / Gabriolis: A former Light Angel. He was once a Dark Angel because he felt betrayed, but he later learned the truth and became good again. He helped Mondo and Rockna defeat the evil Redda.
  • Redda (レダ): One of the main bad guys. Redda is a fallen angel who wants to use the six items to create a world of nothingness. He tricked Gabriolis in the past.

Mon World has six special areas, each with its own guardian angel and types of monsters:
