The House of Montagu Douglas Scott, often called the Scott family, is a very old and important family in the United Kingdom. It started in the 15th century as Clan Scott.

In the 17th century, a big change happened. James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, who was the oldest son of King Charles II, married Anne Scott, 1st Duchess of Buccleuch. This marriage brought together two important families.

For a short time, the family name was Montagu-Scott. But later, the 5th Duke changed it to its current form. It's one of the few families in English-speaking countries with a long, unhyphenated (no dashes) triple name.
