Our Planet is an amazing British nature documentary series. It was made for Netflix, a popular streaming service. The famous David Attenborough tells the story in English. The show was created by Silverback Films, the same team who made other popular nature series like Planet Earth. They worked with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to make it.
This series shows incredible animals in their natural homes. It also talks about how humans affect the environment. A big part of the show is about how climate change impacts all living things. Our Planet was the first nature documentary ever made by Netflix. All eight episodes came out on April 5, 2019. Netflix thought that 25 million homes would watch the series in its first month!

Making the Series
On April 15, 2015, it was announced that the team behind the BBC series Planet Earth would make a new show for Netflix. This series, Our Planet, took four years to create. Over 600 crew members worked on it. They filmed in 50 different countries around the world.
The series explores many different habitats. These include the cold Arctic, the deep ocean, the huge lands of Africa, and the thick jungles of South America. In November 2018, it was officially announced that David Attenborough would be the narrator. The release date of April 5, 2019, was also shared.
Promoting the Show
The first showing of Our Planet happened on April 4, 2019. It was held at the Natural History Museum in London. Many important people attended the event. These included Prince Charles and his sons Prince William and Prince Harry. Famous people like David Beckham and Ellie Goulding were also there. David Attenborough himself attended to show his support for action against climate change.
At the event, Prince Charles said he hoped Our Planet would teach many people about what needs to be done. David Attenborough asked everyone to be "responsible careful citizens of this planet." He reminded everyone that Earth is our only home.
Trailers for "Our Planet" were released before the show came out. The first teaser trailer came out on November 8, 2018. A second teaser was released in February 2019. The official trailer came out on March 19, 2019.

The music for Our Planet was created by Steven Price. A special album was released with all the music from the series. It also includes the theme song "In This Together." This song was made with English singer Ellie Goulding.
Watching the Series
Starting on June 20, 2020, Our Planet was shown on Indonesian TV. It was part of a program called Belajar dari Rumah (Study from Home). This was possible because the Ministry of Education and Culture worked with Netflix. This was the first time a Netflix original documentary was shown on regular TV.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Netflix made the series free to watch on YouTube. This was done so that more people could use it as an educational resource.
Our Planet Live in Concert
Our Planet has also become a live show! It will tour around the world in 2020 and 2021. The show is called Our Planet Live in Concert. It combines amazing parts of the series with new music played live. David Attenborough also provides new narration for the show.
This two-hour show uses three giant 4K screens. It features a 66-piece orchestra and a live singer, Lisa Hannigan. The show was created by Silverback Films, the same team who made the series. The composer, Steven Price, also helped create the live show.
Our Planet Live was set to start touring in October 2020. Its first show was in London. Steven Price will host the live events. Some of the first dates included:
- on October 16, 2020, at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra performed.
- on October 18, 2020, at the O2 Arena in London, England. The Philharmonia Orchestra performed.
- on October 19, 2020, at SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra performed.
