Statherian facts for kids
The Statherian Period was the last part of a very old time called the Palaeoproterozoic Eon. It started 1.8 billion years ago and finished 1.6 billion years ago. This means it lasted for 200 million years!
What Happened During the Statherian Period?
During the Statherian Period, a lot of new land appeared on Earth. This was a time of big changes for our planet's surface.
The Columbia Supercontinent
One of the most important things that happened was the formation of a giant landmass called the Columbia supercontinent. A supercontinent is a huge piece of land made up of many smaller continents joined together.
Columbia formed right at the beginning of the Statherian Period. It was one of the earliest supercontinents known in Earth's history. Imagine all the land on Earth gathered into one enormous continent!
Earth's History Timeline
The Statherian Period is part of the Proterozoic Eon, which is a very long stretch of time in Earth's history. Scientists use these periods to help understand how our planet has changed over billions of years.
