Tatjana Maria (born 8 August 1987) is a professional tennis player from Germany. In July 2025, she reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 36. She was almost 38 years old at that time. She also reached No. 54 in doubles rankings in June 2016.

Tatjana has won four singles titles and four doubles titles on the WTA Tour. She also won one singles title on the WTA Challenger Tour. She has played over 1250 singles matches. This is the third highest number of tennis matches played by a woman in the Open Era. Only Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert have played more.

She has played for Germany in the Billie Jean King Cup many times. She won three of her four WTA Tour titles after becoming a mother. She won her biggest title, a WTA 500 event, when she was 37 years old.

Tatjana Maria's Tennis Journey

Starting Her Career: 2013–2016

Tatjana took a break from tennis in 2013 to have her first child. She returned to playing in 2014. In 2015, she reached the third round at Wimbledon. This helped her get into the top 100 players in the world.

Breaking into the Top 50: 2017–2020

Tatjana reached a career-high ranking in the top 50 in November 2017. She won her first singles WTA Tour title in 2018. She won the 2018 Mallorca Open by beating Anastasija Sevastova.

Wimbledon Success: 2022

In 2022, Tatjana won her second title at the 2022 Copa Colsanitas. She defeated Laura Pigossi in the final.

At the Wimbledon Championships, she had an amazing run. She beat top players like Maria Sakkari, who was ranked No. 5 in the world. She also saved two match points against Jeļena Ostapenko to win. This made her the oldest player to reach a Wimbledon quarterfinal for the first time. She then beat her fellow German player Jule Niemeier.

Tatjana became one of only a few women over 34 to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in the Open Era. She was also the first mother of two to reach the last four of a major tournament since 1975. She was given the WTA Comeback Player of the Year award for her great performance in 2022.

Continuing Success: 2023–2024

Tatjana continued her winning streak by defending her title at the 2023 Copa Colsanitas in Bogotá. She beat Peyton Stearns in the final.

In 2024, she played in the 2024 Copa Colsanitas again but lost in the quarterfinals. She was chosen to represent Germany at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Making History: 2025

In June 2025, at 37 years old, Tatjana Maria made history. She became the oldest woman to reach a WTA 500 final. She also became the oldest WTA singles finalist since Serena Williams in 2020. Tatjana won the 2025 Queen's Club Championships, beating Amanda Anisimova. This made her the first woman champion at Queen's Club in over 50 years. She is also the oldest ever winner of a WTA 500 event.

The next month, she was runner-up at the WTA 125 Hall of Fame Open. She lost to Caty McNally in the final.

About Tatjana Maria's Life

Tatjana's father, Heinrich Malek, was a Polish international handball player. On 8 April 2013, she married her coach, Charles-Edouard Maria. He is a former tennis player from France. They have two daughters. Their first daughter was born in December 2013, and their second daughter was born in April 2021.
