Troy Amos-Ross, born on July 17, 1975, is a retired professional boxer from Guyana and Canada. Before becoming a professional, he was an amateur boxer. He competed in the light heavyweight division at two Olympic Games: the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

His Family and Boxing Roots

Troy Ross comes from a family of boxers. His father, Charles Amos, was also a boxer. Charles represented Guyana at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Troy's first cousin, Egerton Marcus, also won a silver medal for Canada. Egerton competed in the Middleweight division at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.

Troy Ross had an exciting amateur boxing career.

Olympic Challenges

At the 1996 Olympics, Troy won against Roland Raforme from Seychelles and Paul M'Bongo from Cameroon. However, he lost in the quarterfinals to Vassili Jirov from Kazakhstan, who later won the gold medal.

In the 2000 Olympics, Troy was hoped to win a medal. But he was knocked out in his first fight by Nigerian boxer Jegbefumere Albert.

Becoming a Professional Boxer

After the 2000 Summer Olympics, Troy Ross decided to become a professional boxer. He retired briefly in 2005 after winning 13 fights and losing only one. He felt it was hard to find good opponents.

His Comeback and Titles

In 2007, Troy decided to return to boxing. On March 19, 2007, he won the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title. He achieved this by knocking out John Keeton in the second round.

Troy on TV: The Contender

In 2008, Troy Ross joined a boxing reality TV show called The Contender. The show was filmed in Singapore.

Winning The Contender Championship

Troy was part of the gold team on the show. On January 14, 2009, he won his first fight against Australian Lawrence Tauasa. He then fought American Felix Cora Jr. in the quarterfinals and won quickly. In the semifinals, Troy faced Akinyemi Laleye from Nigeria and won by a clear decision.

Troy fought another Nigerian boxer, Ehinomen Ehikhamenor, in the finals. The final match was on February 25, 2009, in Connecticut, USA. Troy defeated Ehikhamenor by a technical knockout (TKO) in the fourth round. This made him the champion of The Contender season 4.

Life Outside the Ring: Acting and Fashion

Troy Ross has also found success outside of boxing. He started his own fashion line called Ross Wear. He has also appeared in several movies.

Movie Roles

In 2005, Troy was in the movie Cinderella Man. He acted alongside Russell Crowe and played the role of heavyweight boxer John Henry Lewis. In 2007, he appeared in the movie Resurrecting the Champ. He played the younger version of the "champ" character, working with Josh Hartnett and Samuel L. Jackson. Troy also played the role of heavyweight boxer Floyd Patterson in the movie Phantom Punch.
