Ueberstorf is a town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Sense district of the Fribourg canton. Even though Fribourg mostly speaks French, most people in Ueberstorf speak German.

History of Ueberstorf

Ueberstorf is a very old place! It was first written about in the year 1226. Back then, it was called Jeberinsdorf. Two years later, in 1228, its name was recorded as Ibristorf.

Geography of Ueberstorf

Ueberstorf covers an area of about 16.13 square kilometers (6.23 square miles). A large part of this land, about 72.8%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 18.5% of the area.

About 7.4% of Ueberstorf is built up with buildings and roads. A small part, 1.2%, is made up of rivers or lakes. Only a tiny bit, 0.1%, is land that cannot be used for anything.

Most of the built-up area is for houses and other buildings (4.9%). Roads and other transport paths make up 1.9%. In the forested areas, 16.9% is dense forest. Another 1.7% has orchards or small groups of trees.

For farming, 45.5% of the land grows crops. About 26.2% is used for pastures where animals graze. A small 1.1% is for orchards or vineyards. All the water in Ueberstorf is flowing water, like rivers.

The town is in the Sense district, in the northeast part of the Fribourg canton. Two-thirds of Ueberstorf shares a border with the Canton of Bern. Ueberstorf is on the road between Flamatt and Schwarzenburg. It has two main village centers and a small settlement around its church. There are also many small hamlets (tiny villages) scattered around.

The coat of arms for Ueberstorf has a special design. It shows six vertical stripes, alternating between silver (or white) and blue. On top of these stripes, there is a red lion standing up on its back legs. This design is called Paly of Six Argent and Azure a Lion rampant Gules.

People and Population in Ueberstorf

Also in 2000, there were 892 single people who had never been married. There were 1,039 married people. About 112 people were widows or widowers, and 72 people were divorced.

Ueberstorf had 833 private homes in 2000. Each home had about 2.5 people living in it. There were 207 homes with only one person. There were 69 homes with five or more people. Education in Ueberstorf
