What Happens in the Story?
The story of Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana unfolds across three episodes. Each episode focuses on one of the TV shows.
Part 1: "Cast-Away (To Another Show)"
This part is Season 2, episode 25 of Wizards of Waverly Place.
Justin Russo is thrilled because he won an essay contest. The prize is a "teen cruise" to Hawaii on the SS Tipton. His brother Max Russo and sister Alex Russo also want to go. Their parents, Theresa and Jerry Russo, say Alex cannot go because her school grades are low.
However, Alex finds out there is a school on the ship. She convinces her parents to let her go, promising to attend classes. But Alex uses magic to bring her friend Harper Finkle aboard. She makes Harper go to classes in her place. Harper meets Cody Martin there.
Alex also meets Bailey Pickett and helps her win a tug-of-war game by cheating. When Mr. Moseby asks for her name, Alex uses the name "Ashley Olsen" to avoid trouble. Justin tries to impress London Tipton by pretending to be a doctor. He soon realizes London is not very smart and loses interest.
Max meets Zack Martin, Cody's twin brother. They have a slushie drinking contest and then race luggage carts. Max accidentally crashes his cart, and Bailey falls into a hot tub while eating pizza. She starts choking. Justin, pretending to be a doctor, does not know how to help. Alex steps in and saves Bailey using abdominal thrusts.
Mr. Moseby thanks Alex, but he forgets her fake name. Alex, forgetting "Ashley Olsen," says her name is "Ashley Simpson." Max and Harper arrive and call Alex by her real name, confusing Mr. Moseby. Max tells the truth, and Alex pushes him into the hot tub. London is upset with Justin for not helping Bailey and breaks up with him. Alex then sends Harper home with magic, but worries she might have sent her to Rome by mistake. Alex continues to skip classes.
Part 2: "Double-Crossed"
This part is Season 1, episode 21 of The Suite Life on Deck.
Hannah Montana (who is secretly Miley Stewart) and her best friend Lola Luftnagle (who is secretly Lilly Truscott) board the SS Tipton. They are on their way to a concert in Hawaii. Cody Martin wants to get tickets for himself and Bailey, who is a huge Hannah Montana fan. Cody knows Hannah from when she stayed at the Tipton Hotel in Boston.
Cody first asks Hannah for tickets, but she does not remember him. He then asks London for help, but London has a grudge against Hannah. Cody learns he can win tickets by joining a scavenger hunt. He asks his friend Woody Fink to help him.
Meanwhile, Justin, Alex, and Max are still on the cruise. Max tries to impress London with his special luggage. Alex meets Zack, who starts to like her. After Justin embarrasses Alex in front of Zack, Alex plays a prank. She puts blue dye in the hot tub and hides in Zack's cabin to escape Justin and Mr. Moseby.
Mr. Moseby thinks Zack is responsible and grounds him in his cabin. Zack blames Cody, thinking Cody is getting revenge for a prank. Zack and Alex sneak out. Zack stops Cody from finishing the scavenger hunt. Justin tells Mr. Moseby that Alex put the dye in the hot tub and takes her away, saying she will be grounded. Mr. Moseby apologizes to Zack but says Zack is still in trouble for confessing to other pranks.
Cody is sad, but Bailey is happy that Cody tried his best to get the tickets. Woody accidentally splatters cake on Cody's shirt. Hannah sees this and remembers Cody (mistaking him for Zack). She gives Cody and Bailey concert tickets. Bailey then kisses Cody, surprising him. Before the Russo kids leave the cruise, London tells Max they will meet again and kisses him on his cheek.
This episode is the only one in the crossover that features characters from all three shows. However, Selena Gomez (Alex), David Henrie (Justin), and Jake T. Austin (Max) do not have scenes with Miley Cyrus (Hannah) or Emily Osment (Lilly/Lola) in this episode. This is also the first time Cody and Bailey show they like each other as more than friends. All the main cast from The Suite Life on Deck appeared in all three parts of the crossover. Alex, Justin, and Max make their last crossover appearance in this episode.
Part 3: "Super(stitious) Girl"
This part is Season 3, episode 19 of Hannah Montana.
The SS Tipton arrives in Hawaii. Hannah loses a special anklet her deceased mother gave her. Hannah believes it is lucky, and bad things start to happen. Her concert rehearsal goes badly, a pet rat gets in her hair, and her shirt rips. Hannah and Lola search for the anklet but cannot find it.
A maid finds the anklet and shows it to Mr. Moseby. But London takes it, thinking it is valuable. Hannah and Lola see London with the anklet. They try to convince her to give it back. When Hannah says the anklet has fake diamonds, London gets upset and accidentally drops it overboard.
Hannah wonders if things can get worse, and they do. A storm blows her blond wig away. Her hair dye turns her hair green instead of blond. Finally, a mirror breaks. Hannah is very upset. When Cody and Bailey come to thank her for the concert tickets, she says she is canceling the concert. This upsets Cody and Bailey.
Hannah talks with her father, Robby Stewart, who has been seasick the whole cruise. She feels sad and believes her mother's spirit was in the anklet. Robby cheers her up by saying her mother's spirit is also in her heart. He also reveals he always has a backup wig and gives it to her. Hannah then tells Cody and Bailey the concert is back on and invites them to the after-party. Bailey asks Cody if this was his plan. Cody says a good relationship needs honesty, but he lies and says it was his plan. Hannah's concert goes well.
Meanwhile, back at Hannah's house in Malibu, her brother Jackson Stewart and friend Oliver Oken get a package for Robby. Robby warned them not to open it. But Jackson, Oliver, and Rico Suave open it anyway. Inside is a bounce house. The bounce house inflates automatically, sticking the boys to the window. Rico eventually deflates it with his fingernail.
In this episode, Miley and Lilly only appear as their famous alter egos, Hannah and Lola.

DVD Release and Theme Song
The Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana special was released on DVD on September 22, 2009. The DVD included fun bonus features like:
- Justin's Award-Winning Essay! – You could watch the video of the essay that helped Justin and his siblings get on the SS Tipton Teen Cruise.
- It's a Suite Life Having Fun with Hannah and the Wizards – This included funny bloopers (mistakes during filming) and interviews with the stars behind the scenes.
The special had a unique theme song. It was a mix of the opening songs from all three shows. It lasted for 1 minute and 3 seconds and played when the story switched between episodes. The theme song showed a Rubik's Cube twisting and turning with images from each show.
Later, when the episodes were re-aired, they often used each show's original opening and closing credits. This was different from the first broadcast. This crossover was the first Disney Channel crossover to have its own special opening sequence and theme song before starting the individual episodes. However, in the UK, it was shown as three separate episodes with their own title sequences from the very beginning.
