Zoey Deutch (born November 10, 1994) is an American actress and producer. She is the younger daughter of director Howard Deutch and actress-director Lea Thompson. Zoey started her acting career on television in the early 2010s. She appeared in shows like Disney Channel's The Suite Life on Deck (2010–2011) and CW's Ringer (2011–2012).
Zoey made her first movie appearance in 2012. She became well-known for her main roles in films such as Everybody Wants Some!! (2016), Before I Fall (2017), Flower (2017), Set It Up (2018), and Buffaloed (2019). She also had important supporting roles in the comedy horror movie Zombieland: Double Tap (2019), the historical mystery The Outfit (2022), and the court drama Juror No. 2 (2024). After starring in online shows like The Politician (2019–2020), Not Okay, and Something from Tiffany's (both 2022), she performed on Broadway for the first time in a play called Our Town (2024). She has also played Jean Seberg in the movie Nouvelle Vague (2025).

Zoey Deutch was born on November 10, 1994, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are actress Lea Thompson and director Howard Deutch. Her older sister, Madelyn Deutch, is also an actress. Zoey's father is from New York and has Jewish family roots. Her mother is from Minnesota and has some Irish family. Zoey identifies as Jewish and had a bat mitzvah ceremony.
She began taking acting classes when she was five years old. Zoey studied at Oakwood School and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She focused on theater during her time at L.A. County High School for the Arts. She also attended the Young Actors Space.
Zoey Deutch's Acting Career
Early Roles (2010–2013)
Zoey started her career in 2010 when she was 15. She got a role on the Disney Channel show The Suite Life on Deck. She played Maya, who was Zack Martin's girlfriend in the third season. From 2011 to 2012, she had a repeating role as Juliet Martin in The CW drama Ringer.
Her first movie role was in Mayor Cupcake (2011), where she acted alongside her mother and sister. Zoey also had a small scene in The Amazing Spider-Man. However, the director, Marc Webb, decided to remove the scene from the final movie, but it can be found on the DVD.
Her big break in movies came with a supporting role in the 2013 fantasy-romance movie Beautiful Creatures. This film was based on a popular young adult novel. Zoey played Emily Asher in the movie. She also appeared in TV shows like NCIS, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, and ABC Family's Switched at Birth.
Becoming a Star (2014–2017)
Zoey starred as Rosemarie Hathaway in Vampire Academy (2014). This movie was based on the first book of a best-selling young adult series. This was her first time playing the main character in a film. Many people praised her performance.
In 2016, Zoey played Beverly in Richard Linklater's movie Everybody Wants Some!!. This film first showed at the SXSW Film Festival. She also acted with Robert De Niro and Zac Efron in Dirty Grandpa. In Why Him?, she played a Stanford student whose parents were played by Bryan Cranston and Megan Mullally. Her character falls in love with a billionaire, played by James Franco.
Zoey's next role was in the crime drama Vincent-N-Roxxy. She then starred as Samantha "Sam" Kingston in Before I Fall. This movie was based on a popular young adult novel. Many saw this role as a big step in her career. Another film featuring Zoey, Rebel in the Rye, also premiered in 2017. In this movie about author J.D. Salinger, Zoey played Oona O'Neill.
Zoey also starred in Flower, directed by Max Winkler. Critics praised her acting in this film, calling her performance "electric" and saying she was "a genuine star in the making."
She appeared in her mother Lea Thompson's first movie as a director, The Year Of Spectacular Men. Zoey played Sabrina and also helped produce the film. In 2017, she was in the music video for Ed Sheeran's song "Perfect". This video has been watched billions of times. She also appeared in James Franco's movie The Disaster Artist.
Current Success (2018–Present)
In 2018, Zoey starred with Glen Powell in the Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up. The movie is about two busy assistants who try to set up their demanding bosses so they can have more free time. She also had a role in the drama-comedy The Professor with Johnny Depp.
In 2019, Zoey starred in the crime comedy-drama Buffaloed. She played Peg Dahl, a con artist who becomes a debt collector to escape her hometown. Zoey also helped produce this film. Critics gave her performance in Buffaloed high praise.
Zoey played Madison in Zombieland: Double Tap, which came out in October 2019. She received good reviews for her role. In 2020, Zoey appeared in a TV series adaptation called Home Movie: The Princess Bride. This project helped raise money for World Central Kitchen. In 2021, she was in the music video for Justin Bieber's song "Anyone". She also voiced a character named Lily in the animated comedy series Fairfax.

Activism and Support
Zoey has performed to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. With her mother and sister, she has worked for over ten years with Corazón de Vida. This organization helps orphanages in Baja California, Mexico.
She took part in the 2017 Women's March and the 2018 Women's March. She is also part of the Embrace Ambition campaign by the Tory Burch Foundation. Zoey has been an ambassador for the "Shop for Success" charity event, which supports Dress For Success. She often helps with fundraising campaigns for different charities and causes.
