A Starry Sight
- Something incredible happened in the sky! Astronomers in both China and Japan saw a very bright new star. We now know this was a supernova, which is a huge explosion of a star. This supernova was one of only eight ever seen in our own galaxy, the Milky Way, throughout recorded history. It appeared in the group of stars called Cassiopeia and was bright enough to be seen for about 185 days! Scientists today think the radio source 3C58 is what's left of this amazing event.
