Amazing Journeys and Discoveries
- January – The brave explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano began an amazing journey. He sailed from Madeira on his ship, La Dauphine, working for Francis I of France, to explore the New World.
- March 1 (around this date) – Verrazzano's team first landed at Cape Fear in what is now the United States.
- April 17 – Verrazzano's expedition became the first Europeans to enter New York Bay. They even saw the island of Manhattan for the first time!
- July 8 – After their incredible journey, Verrazzano's expedition safely returned to Dieppe.

- August–September – The city of Marseille in France was surrounded by an army led by the Duke of Bourbon.
