About Acesur

Acesur started way back in 1840. Today, it has more than 600 employees working in different places across Spain. These places include Dos Hermanas, La Roda de Andalucia (in Sevilla), Tarancón (in Cuenca), Madrid, Mora de Toledo (in Toledo), Vilches, Puente del Obispo, and Jabalquinto (in Jaén).

A big part of Acesur's business, about 35% of its sales, comes from selling products to over 80 countries around the world. Their main brands are "La Española" and "Coosur".

Acesur also has a special part of its company called Enersur, which focuses on renewable energies. This includes using biomass (energy from plants), making electricity from heat (called cogeneration), and producing biodiesel (fuel from plants).

Acesur's Journey Through Time

How Acesur Began

The company was founded in 1840. The next year, the name "Luca de Tena" was officially registered in Seville. Later, in 1891, the name "Hijos de Luca de Tena" was registered.

In 1947, the original company was sold, and a new one called "Aceites y Jabones Luca de Tena" was created. A year later, "Luca de Tena, S.A." was formed. The whole group became a bigger company in 1952 and then a public company in 1953. In 1968, "Aceites Giralda, S.A." was started.

Changes and Growth

In 1974, Aceites y Jabones Luca de Tena, S.A. sold the name "Aceites Giralda, S.A." The company went through a big change and moved its main location. Some of its brands were sold, while others were grouped together to create a new name: "Olivarera Internacional, S.A." (OLIVASA).

In 1975, Acesur started selling its products to the United States. It soon became one of the main suppliers of olive oil there. In 1976, the Guillen family, who were experts in olive oil, joined the company. In 1988, the whole group changed its name to "Aceites del Sur, S.A." This new name highlighted that their oils came from the Andalusia region of Spain.

Expanding Worldwide

In 1989, the "La Española" brand became popular in Brazil. They had distributors in cities like Salvador de Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba, and Florianópolis. In 1990, Aceites del Sur, S.A. celebrated its 150th birthday! Between 1995 and 1996, the company continued to grow in the Brazilian market.

In 2000, Acesur built a factory and refinery in Aleppo, Syria. This allowed them to sell bottled olive oil in Syria and export it to other Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and Yemen. In 2002, the company bought Coosur in Vilches and Olcesa in Tarancón. By 2004, Acesur's exports to China made up 10% of all olive oil imported into that country, mainly with their "La Española" and "Coosur" brands.

In 2008, Acesur bought a plant in Jabalquinto that processes olive waste. A year later, in 2009, they opened a cogeneration plant there, which makes electricity. As the company grew, "Acesur" became the name for the entire group.

Recent Developments

In 2010, Acesur bought Duendesol, which meant they started making sauces. As part of their social responsibility, the Juan Ramon Guillen Foundation was created. This foundation works to improve olive fields, seeing them as an important part of human heritage. In 2011, a biodiesel plant started working in Tarancon. By this time, Acesur was exporting its products to more than 80 countries.
