Beachwood Canyon was first developed in the 1920s. More than 22,000 people live here today. A group of important people worked together to create it. This group included Gen. M. H. Sherman, who founded West Hollywood. It also included Harry Chandler, who published the Los Angeles Times newspaper. Real estate expert Sidney Woodruff was also part of the team. He also helped develop another area called Dana Point.

The people who designed Beachwood Canyon got their ideas from different places. They were inspired by the beautiful areas of southern France, Italy, and Spain. They also looked at the old castles with towers in Germany. This led them to build homes in a special style called Storybook house architecture. These homes often look like they came straight out of a fairy tale.

Movie directors have liked filming in Beachwood Canyon for many years. For example, parts of the original movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1956 were filmed here. You can see people running down Belden Drive in that movie.
