Bosnia and Herzegovina first sent athletes to the Summer Olympic Games under its own flag in 1992. Before that, Bosnian athletes competed as part of the Yugoslavian team until Yugoslavia broke up.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of only four European countries that have not yet won an Olympic medal. The others are Andorra, Malta, and Monaco.

The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina was created in 1992 and officially recognized in 1993.
