Ciryl Jacky Gane (born April 12, 1990) is a professional fighter from France. He is known for his skills in mixed martial arts (MMA) and was also a Muay Thai fighter. Ciryl Gane competes in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He even held the title of Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion. Before joining the UFC, Gane was the Heavyweight Champion in another fighting league called TKO Major League MMA. As of late 2023, he is ranked among the top heavyweight fighters in the UFC.

Early life

Ciryl Gane was born in La Roche-sur-Yon, France. His family has roots in Guadeloupe, a French island. His father, Romain Gane, was a bus driver and a football player.

When Ciryl was young, he played football and basketball. Even though he was good at sports, he decided to work in sales. He joined a special program in Paris that combined work and study. During this time, a friend introduced him to Muay Thai, which is a type of martial art.

Muay Thai career

Ciryl Gane started his professional Muay Thai career in 2016. His first big fight was for the AFMT Muay Thai heavyweight title. He won this fight by knockout in the second round.

After winning another fight, Gane faced a famous fighter named Brice Guidon. Gane won that fight by knockout in the third round. He then defended his AFMT title successfully by winning another fight by knockout.

Gane continued to win his Muay Thai fights. He beat Bangaly Keita by knockout. Then, he won a decision against Yassine Boughanem, who was a multiple-time champion.

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

Ciryl Gane began his professional MMA career in 2018. His coach was Fernand Lopez. Gane first signed with a Canadian MMA company called TKO. His very first fight there was for the vacant TKO heavyweight championship. He won the title in the first round using a special move called a front choke.

Just one month later, he defended his heavyweight championship. He won that fight by TKO in the second round. His third fight in TKO was also a title defense, which he won in the first round by TKO.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Gane joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in August 2019. In his first UFC fight, he won by an arm triangle choke in the first round.

He continued to impress, winning his next fight in October 2019 with a heel hook submission. This win earned him a "Performance of the Night" bonus award. In December 2019, Gane won another fight by a unanimous decision.

Ciryl Gane was supposed to fight several times in 2020, but these fights were canceled for different reasons. He finally fought Junior dos Santos in December 2020. Gane won this fight by technical knockout in the second round.

In February 2021, Gane won another fight by unanimous decision. He then faced Alexander Volkov in June 2021 and won by unanimous decision again.

Gane got a big chance in August 2021. He fought Derrick Lewis for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. Gane won the fight by technical knockout in the third round, becoming the interim champion. This win also earned him another "Performance of the Night" award.

In January 2022, Gane fought Francis Ngannou for the official UFC Heavyweight Championship. Gane was ahead early in the fight. But Ngannou used wrestling to control the later rounds. Gane lost the fight by a unanimous decision. This was his first loss in any martial arts competition.

Gane returned to the octagon in September 2022 to face Tai Tuivasa. He won this exciting fight by knockout in the third round. This fight was so good that it earned the "Fight of the Night" award.

In March 2023, Gane fought Jon Jones for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship. Gane lost this fight in the first round by a guillotine choke submission.

Gane fought Serghei Spivac in September 2023 and won by TKO in the second round. This win gave Gane his third "Performance of the Night" bonus award.

In December 2024, Gane had a rematch with Alexander Volkov. Gane won the fight by a split decision.

Personal life

Ciryl Gane is married and has two daughters. They live in Nogent-sur-Marne, which is a town near Paris, France.
