Ciryl Romain Jacky Gane (born April 12, 1990) is a French professional mixed martial artist. He is also an actor and used to be a Muay Thai fighter. Ciryl Gane competes in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was once the Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion. Gane started his professional fighting career in 2014. He also competed for TKO Major League MMA, where he was the Heavyweight Champion. As of June 2025, he is ranked #1 in the UFC heavyweight rankings.

Early Life and Training
Ciryl Gane was born in La Roche-sur-Yon, France. His family on his father's side comes from Guadeloupe. His father, Romain Gane, was a bus driver and a footballer. When Ciryl was young, he played football and basketball. Even though he was good at sports, he decided to work in sales at a furniture store. He joined a special program in Paris that combined work and study. During this time, a friend from school introduced him to Muay Thai.
Muay Thai Fighting Career
Ciryl Gane started his professional Muay Thai career on June 4, 2016. His first fight was for the AFMT Muay Thai heavyweight title against Jérémy Jeanne. He won this fight by knockout in the second round.
After winning another fight by decision, Gane fought K-1 veteran Brice Guidon. He won that fight by knockout in the third round. Gane then defended his AFMT title against Jonathan Gengoul, winning by knockout in the first round.
At Warriors Night, Gane defeated Bangaly Keita by knockout in the third round. He then faced Yassine Boughanem, a multiple-time WBC Muay Thai champion. Gane won this fight by decision.
Mixed Martial Arts Journey
Ciryl Gane began his professional MMA career in 2018. His coach was Fernand Lopez. Gane first signed with a Canadian MMA company called TKO.
Starting in MMA
Gane's first fight in TKO was for the vacant heavyweight championship. He fought Bobby Sullivan and won the title in the first round. He used a move called a front choke.
A month later, he defended his championship against Adam Dyczka. He won this fight in the second round by TKO. His third fight in TKO was his second title defense. He fought Roggers Souza and won in the first round by TKO.
Joining the UFC
Gane made his first appearance in the UFC on August 10, 2019. He fought Raphael Pessoa at UFC Fight Night: Shevchenko vs. Carmouche 2. Gane won the fight with an arm triangle choke in the first round.
On October 26, 2019, Gane faced Don'Tale Mayes at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Askren. Gane won this fight in the third round using a heel hook. This win earned him a "Performance of the Night" bonus award.
Gane then fought Tanner Boser on December 21, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. The Korean Zombie. He won the fight by a unanimous decision.
Ciryl Gane had several fights planned that were canceled. This was due to injuries or other issues with his opponents.
On December 12, 2020, Gane fought Junior dos Santos at UFC 256. He won the fight by technical knockout in the second round.
Gane faced Jairzinho Rozenstruik on February 27, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 186. He won the fight by unanimous decision.
On June 26, 2021, Gane fought Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 190. He won this fight by unanimous decision.
Fighting for the Title
Gane fought Derrick Lewis on August 7, 2021, at UFC 265. This fight was for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. Gane won the fight by technical knockout in the third round. He also received another "Performance of the Night" award for this win.
On January 22, 2022, Gane faced Francis Ngannou for the official UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 270. Gane was ahead in the first two rounds. However, Ngannou changed his strategy and used wrestling to control the later rounds. Gane lost the fight by unanimous decision. This was his first loss in any martial arts competition.
Gane fought Tai Tuivasa on September 3, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 209. He won the fight by knockout in the third round. This exciting fight earned him the "Fight of the Night" award.
On March 4, 2023, Gane fought Jon Jones for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 285. He lost the fight in the first round by a guillotine choke submission.
Gane faced Serghei Spivac on September 2, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 226. He won the fight by TKO in the second round. This win earned Gane his third "Performance of the Night" bonus award.
Gane had a rematch with Alexander Volkov on December 7, 2024, at UFC 310. Gane won the fight by a split decision. Some people, including UFC CEO Dana White, thought Volkov had won.
Ciryl Gane is scheduled to fight for the heavyweight championship again. He will face the current champion, Tom Aspinall, on October 25, 2025, at UFC 321.
Acting Roles
Ciryl Gane has also started an acting career. He played the character Bastien in the movie KO. He also appeared in the 2025 film, Den of Thieves 2. In this movie, he acted alongside O'Shea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler.
Personal Life
Ciryl Gane is married and has two daughters. He and his family live in Nogent-sur-Marne, which is a town near Paris, France.
