List of the original 30 Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland facts for kids
In 1692, the Church of England, also known as the Anglican Church, became the official church of the Province of Maryland. This meant it was supported by the government. The colony had ten counties, and these were divided into 30 special areas called parishes. Each parish had its own church.
After the American Revolutionary War, these churches became part of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Later, this larger church group split into smaller ones: the Episcopal Diocese of Easton in 1868 and the Episcopal Diocese of Washington in 1895.
