Mexico City Cathedral facts for kids
The Mexico City Cathedral is a huge and historic church located in the heart of Mexico City. Its full name is the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary of Mexico City. It is one of the oldest and largest cathedrals in all of the Americas. Building this amazing church took a very long time, from 1573 to 1813. It was built on the site of an earlier church, which was put up soon after the Spanish took over the ancient city of Tenochtitlán. The new cathedral eventually replaced that first church completely.
