Peabody and Stearns facts for kids

Peabody & Stearns was a very important architecture company in the eastern part of the United States during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the company was started by two talented architects: Robert Swain Peabody (1845–1917) and John Goddard Stearns Jr. (1843–1917).
They designed many different types of buildings. Their work is especially known for a style called "shingle style", which uses wooden shingles on the outside of buildings.
Later, another architect named Pierce P. Furber joined them, and the company's name changed to Peabody, Stearns & Furber. After Robert Peabody and John Stearns passed away, the company was taken over by W. Cornell Appleton (who was also an architect there) and Frank Stearns (John Stearns' son). They renamed it Appleton & Stearns.
