History of Piermont, New Hampshire
Founding and Early Days
Piermont was officially established by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1764. The first settlers arrived a few years later, in 1768. The town's name comes from "Piedmont," a region in Italy.
By 1790, when the first official count of people happened, Piermont had 426 residents. This shows how the town began to grow in its early years.
Notable Early Settlers
One interesting person from Piermont's past was Aaron Lane. He grew up in Piermont before becoming the first permanent settler in the Mojave Desert area, which is now known as Victorville, California. Stories about Aaron Lane give us a peek into what life was like in Piermont in the mid-1800s.

Land and Water
Piermont covers a total area of about 103.2 square kilometers (about 40 square miles). Most of this area, 99.6 square kilometers, is land. The remaining 3.6 square kilometers are water, making up about 3.49% of the town's total area.
Several small streams flow through Piermont, including Indian Pond Brook, Eastman Brook, and Bean Brook. These streams are "tributaries," meaning they flow into a larger river. In this case, they flow into the Connecticut River, which forms the western border of the town.
Mountains and Lakes
The highest point in Piermont is the top of Piermont Mountain, which stands at about 568 meters (2,717 feet) above sea level.
The town is also home to Lake Tarleton. This lake was named after Colonel William Tarleton, who used to own it. He was an important person who helped write the state's constitution in 1791. Another lake, Lake Armington, feeds into Lake Tarleton from the south.
Neighboring Towns
Piermont shares its borders with several other towns. To the north is Haverhill, to the east is Warren, and to the southeast is Wentworth. To the south, you'll find Orford. Across the Connecticut River to the west is Bradford, Vermont.
Piermont is located about 27 miles north of Lebanon and 33 miles southwest of Littleton.
