Poetry facts for kids
Poetry is a special kind of art and literature. It uses words in creative ways to express ideas, feelings, or stories. Think of it as painting with words!
Poems can be very short, like just a few words. A poem that is only one line long is called a monostich. Poems can also be very long, like a whole book. A long poem that tells a big story is called an epic.
There are many different ways to write poetry, called "poetic forms." Some popular forms include the Sonnet, Haiku, Ballad, Ode, Free verse, and Limerick. Poetry can be serious or funny. It can rhyme or not rhyme. It can even make sense or be silly nonsense!
When someone says something "poetically," it means they are sharing information in a very artistic and thoughtful way.
Digital Poetry: Poems on the Screen
A newer way to create poetry is called digital poetry. This type of poetry uses computers and webtechnology to make poems interactive and exciting.
Digital poetry often combines different art forms. For example, a poem might be linked with audio, video, or web animations. This can happen using special computer code like CSS. Poems can also be linked to each other using hyperlinks.
Modern artists use digital poetry to share their artistic ideas. They also use it to design how their poems look on a screen. An example is the German project "Schwarzer Flamingo". This project uses digital poetry to collect written art and give different artists a place to share their work. So, some digital art projects are both artworks and online exhibitions!
