Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator
Presented by Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
Country United States
Currently held by Barack Obama, Working: What We Do All Day (2023)

The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator is a special prize given each year to a person who does an amazing job telling a story in a TV show or documentary. Think of it like the voice that guides you through a nature documentary or a historical series!

This award started in 2014. Before that, it was part of a bigger award called "Outstanding Voice-Over Performance." But then, the Emmy Awards decided to split that award into two:

  • Outstanding Narrator: This is for people who tell a story in a traditional way, like a storyteller. Their voice helps explain what's happening on screen.
  • Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance: This is for actors who use their voice to play a specific character, like a cartoon character or a talking animal.

The rules for the Outstanding Narrator award are clear: the voice must be a true narration. It can't be someone just talking on camera or from an interview. If the person is acting as a character, even if they are called a "narrator," their work should be entered into the character voice-over category instead.

Below, you'll find a list of the talented people who have won or been nominated for this award. The winners are easy to spot because their names and the shows they narrated are highlighted in gold. The years listed are when the Emmy Awards ceremony took place.
