The Toyota Owners 400 was an exciting NASCAR Cup Series stock car race that took place at the Richmond Raceway in Virginia. For 400 laps, drivers competed on a short, D-shaped track, making for thrilling action. The race ran from 1953 until its final event in 2024.
For a few years, from 2007 to 2011, the race had a unique way of getting its name. The sponsor, Crown Royal, held an essay contest. The winner of the contest had the race named in their honor. After 2010, only members of the military could win the contest.
The race was eventually replaced on the schedule by a new race in Mexico City after the 2024 season. The final winner of the Toyota Owners 400 was Denny Hamlin.

History of the Race
The Toyota Owners 400 had a long and interesting history, with many changes over the years.
For a long time, the race was held on a Sunday afternoon in February, right after the famous Daytona 500. However, the weather in Virginia was often very cold, and one race in 1989 was even delayed by snow!
To avoid the cold, the race was moved to later in the spring, around May or June. In 1991, lights were installed at the track, which allowed for night racing. The race eventually became a popular Saturday night event.
In 2020, the race was not held at Richmond because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, a replacement race was run at Darlington Raceway.
