How Skogan Peak Was Formed
Skogan Peak is made of sedimentary rock. This type of rock forms from layers of sand, mud, and tiny bits of sea creatures that settle over time. The rocks in Skogan Peak were laid down a very long time ago. This happened between the Precambrian and Jurassic periods.
These rocks formed in shallow seas. Later, a huge event called the Laramide orogeny pushed them up. This event caused the rocks to move east and stack on top of younger rocks. This is how the mountain got its shape.
Weather at Skogan Peak
Skogan Peak has a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild. Temperatures can drop below −20 °C (that's -4 °F). With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 °C (-22 °F).
When snow and ice melt on the mountain, the water flows down. This runoff eventually reaches the Bow River through smaller streams.
