Welcome to the world of Tangled! This amazing Disney story started with a movie in 2010. It then grew into a short film called Tangled Ever After (2012) and a TV series, Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. This series was first known as Tangled: The Series.

The Tangled stories are based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale about Rapunzel. But they add many new characters and exciting places. Let's meet some of the heroes, friends, and even some villains from this magical world!

Meet the Main Characters from the Movie

Rapunzel: The Princess with Magical Hair

Princess Rapunzel was born with very special long hair. This hair had healing powers from a magical sun drop flower. Sadly, a woman named Mother Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel when she was a baby. Gothel wanted to use Rapunzel's hair to stay young forever.

Rapunzel grew up in a tall tower, but she always dreamed of seeing the floating lights that appeared every year on her birthday. She finally escaped with a charming thief named Flynn Rider. Their adventure changed her life forever! Rapunzel is always hopeful and tries to find the good in every situation. She works hard to help her friends and family, showing that nothing can keep her down.

Mandy Moore is the voice of Rapunzel.

Flynn Rider: The Charming Thief

Eugene Fitzherbert, also known as Flynn Rider, grew up without his parents. He became a confident thief. His life changed when he accidentally found Rapunzel's tower. He ended up helping her escape. Since then, he has fallen in love with Rapunzel. He changed his ways to protect her and stay by her side. Eventually, they get married!

Zachary Levi voices Flynn Rider.

Pascal: Rapunzel's Best Friend

Pascal is a small, loyal chameleon. One rainy night, he was washed away from his home. Young Rapunzel found him and adopted him. Pascal is Rapunzel's best animal friend. He is always loyal to her. Even though he is small, Pascal has lots of energy. He often helps protect his friends in tricky situations.

Frank Welker and Dee Bradley Baker both voice Pascal.

Maximus: The Royal Guard Horse

Maximus is a brave horse who works for the royal guard. For a long time, he was determined to catch Flynn Rider for his crimes. But Rapunzel's kindness and Flynn's change of heart made Maximus one of their closest allies. Maximus is strong, steady, and very reliable. He acts more like a soldier than some of the actual guards in Corona!

Frank Welker and Dee Bradley Baker also voice Maximus.

Mother Gothel: The Selfish Villain

Mother Gothel is the main villain in Tangled. She is actually about 400 years old! She became obsessed with staying young. This led her to kidnap baby Rapunzel to use the magic in her hair. Gothel mostly cared about her own looks and power. While she sometimes acted like a mother, deep down she was cruel and would do anything to get what she wanted.

Donna Murphy is the voice of Mother Gothel.

Stabbington Brothers: The Twin Criminals

Sideburns and Patchy Stabbington are twin criminals. They are tall and look tough, with scars and orange hair. One has big sideburns, and the other wears an eye patch. In the movie, they team up with Flynn Rider to steal the royal tiara. But Eugene (Flynn) betrays them, and they get caught.

They escape and try to get revenge on Eugene. Mother Gothel hires them to get Rapunzel, but she betrays them too, and they are caught again. They appear briefly at Eugene and Rapunzel's wedding, where they seem to have changed their ways.

In the TV series, they try to get revenge on Eugene again. They even kidnap Eugene's father, King Edmund. But Eugene rescues them, even after all their bad deeds. This act of kindness makes them start to change for good.

Captain of the Guards: A Loyal Protector

The Captain of the Guards is the leader of Corona's royal guards. He is a tall, strong man who wears gold armor. He is very loyal to the Kingdom of Corona. In Tangled, he spends years chasing Flynn Rider. He finally catches Flynn, but the Pub Thugs help Eugene escape.

In the TV series, we learn he has an adopted daughter named Cassandra. She wants to be a guard, but he worries about her safety. He also struggles to trust Eugene because of their past. Over time, he accepts Eugene as a hero. He eventually steps down from his role and gives his title to Eugene. He also makes peace with Cassandra, accepting her as his true daughter.

King Frederic: Rapunzel's Father

King Frederic is Rapunzel's father and the King of Corona. When his wife, Queen Arianna, became very sick during her pregnancy, he ordered his guards to find a cure. They found the magical sundrop flower, which saved his wife and helped Rapunzel be born.

One night, Mother Gothel stole baby Rapunzel. For eighteen years, King Frederic and Queen Arianna held a lantern festival every year. They hoped Rapunzel would see the lights and know they were looking for her. They were overjoyed when Eugene brought Rapunzel home.

In the TV series, King Frederic is very protective of Rapunzel. He even builds a wall around the kingdom to keep her safe. He learns to accept Rapunzel's independence and allows her to go on adventures. He eventually regains his memories and joins the final battle to protect Corona.

Queen Arianna: Rapunzel's Mother

Queen Arianna is Rapunzel's mother and the Queen of Corona. She was very sick before Rapunzel was born. The sundrop flower saved her life. She was heartbroken when Mother Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel. Like King Frederic, she helped launch lanterns every year, hoping Rapunzel would return. She was thrilled when Rapunzel came home.

In the TV series, Queen Arianna supports Rapunzel. She gives Rapunzel a journal with the phrase "Plus Est En Vous," meaning "More is in You." This phrase encourages Rapunzel to feel strong and capable. Arianna is also shown to be adventurous, much like Rapunzel. She eventually regains her memories and joins the final battle to defend Corona.

The Pub Thugs: Unexpected Friends

The Pub Thugs are a group of tough-looking but secretly kind criminals from the Snuggly Duckling pub. They help Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the movie and become important allies in the TV series.

• Hook Hand (voiced by Brad Garrett) – A big man with a hook for a hand. He dreams of being a concert pianist and actually achieves it! He goes on tour but returns later. He helps his brother Hook Foot follow his dream of dancing.
• Big Nose (voiced by Jeffrey Tambor) – A goofy thug who dreams of finding love. He is a romantic at heart. He eventually finds a young lady named Assunta.
• Vladimir (voiced by Richard Kiel in the film and Charles Halford in the series) – A giant, intimidating man who secretly loves collecting tiny ceramic unicorns.
• Attila Buckethead (voiced by Nathan Greno in the film and Steve Blum in the series) – A shy thug who wears a helmet to cover his face. He is a talented baker.
• Shorty (voiced by Paul F. Tompkins) – A short, white-bearded thug. He is friendly but often says strange things and gets names wrong. He can be surprisingly observant and helpful.
• Ulf – A thug who wants to be a mime. He only communicates through miming, and only Shorty can understand him.

New Friends from the TV Series

Cassandra: Rapunzel's Lady-in-Waiting

Cassandra, or Cass for short, is a major character in the Tangled TV series. She is tough and disciplined, very different from Rapunzel. She starts as Rapunzel's lady-in-waiting but secretly trains to be a knight like her adopted father, the Captain of the Guards.

Cass helps Rapunzel sneak out of Corona. This leads to Rapunzel's long, glowing hair returning. Cass often argues with Eugene but cares about him. She struggles to prove herself to her father. Later, it's revealed that Cass is Mother Gothel's biological daughter. This discovery makes her feel betrayed and leads her down a dark path.

Cassandra takes the Moonstone, gaining dark powers. She believes Rapunzel stole her destiny. She becomes a villain for a while, influenced by Zhan Tiri. But in the end, she realizes her mistakes. She makes up with Rapunzel and her adopted father. Cass then leaves Corona to find her own path in the world.

Varian: The Young Alchemist

Varian is a smart, young alchemist who lives in Old Corona with his father, Quirin. He helps Rapunzel study her mysterious hair and the black rocks. When his father gets trapped in amber because of one of his experiments, Varian asks Rapunzel for help. But a big storm hits, and Rapunzel can't get to him.

Feeling betrayed, Varian becomes angry and seeks revenge on Rapunzel and Corona. He becomes a villain for a time, even kidnapping Queen Arianna. Rapunzel eventually defeats him, and he is sent to prison.

After some time, Varian returns and teams up with Rapunzel again. He works to fix his past mistakes and restore the memories of Rapunzel's parents. He becomes a hero, using his inventions to help defend Corona. In the end, Varian becomes the royal engineer and finally creates a water heating system for Corona, something he always wanted to do.

Lance Strongbow: Eugene's Childhood Friend

Lance Strongbow (whose real name is Arnwaldo Schnitz) is a former thief and Eugene Fitzherbert's childhood friend. Lance is charming and good-natured, though sometimes a bit boastful. He first appears trying to convince Eugene to steal treasure with him.

Lance becomes a recurring character, often providing comic relief. He joins Rapunzel and her friends on their journey to the Dark Kingdom. He even overcomes his fear of "clown-spiders" to help everyone. In the end, Lance decides to adopt two young girls, Angry and Red, becoming their loving father.

Angry and Red: Young Thieves Turned Family

Kiera and Catalina Schnitz, better known as Angry and Red, are two young sisters who start as thieves. They are caught by Eugene and Lance. They initially don't speak, so Eugene and Lance call them "Angry" (because she's quiet and serious) and "Red" (because of her hair and nicer personality).

They reveal they steal because they have to, not because they want to. They eventually leave Corona but return later. Catalina (Red) is revealed to have pent-up emotions and even gets a werewolf curse, which Kiera helps her control. They move into Corona permanently. In the end, Lance Strongbow adopts them, and they become a happy family.

King Edmund: Eugene's Long-Lost Father

King Edmund is the king of the forgotten Dark Kingdom and Eugene Fitzherbert's long-lost father. He ruled his kingdom with the power of the Moonstone. When black rocks appeared, he tried to destroy the Moonstone, which injured his arm. He sent his people away and placed his infant son, Horace (Eugene), in an orphanage to protect him.

Years later, he tries to stop Rapunzel and her friends from entering his kingdom. He realizes Eugene is his son by looking into his eyes. Edmund initially fears the combination of Rapunzel's Sundrop power and the Moonstone. But with Eugene's help, he overcomes his fear and puts his faith in Rapunzel.

Edmund visits Corona and bonds with Eugene. He joins the final battle to defend Corona against Zhan Tiri. He makes peace with his son and returns to the Dark Kingdom to rebuild it.

Zhan Tiri: The Ancient Evil Sorceress

Zhan Tiri is the main villain of the Tangled TV series. She is an ancient, powerful demon sorceress who wants to control the magic of both the Sundrop and the Moonstone. She is mentioned throughout the series and takes many forms, including a snow storm and a warlock.

Zhan Tiri manipulates Cassandra, appearing as an "Enchanted Girl." She convinces Cass that Rapunzel stole her destiny and pushes her to embrace her anger. Zhan Tiri uses Cass to get the Moonstone and the Graphtic Scroll, which holds secrets about the Sundrop and Moonstone.

Eventually, Zhan Tiri regains her physical form. She reveals her true identity and her plan to take over the world. She tries to turn Cass completely evil. In the final battle, Rapunzel and Cassandra team up. They combine the Sundrop and Moonstone powers to defeat Zhan Tiri once and for all.

Other Important Characters

Corona Civilians: The People of the Kingdom

• Hook Foot (voiced by Jeff Ross) – Hook Hand's younger brother. He replaces Hook Hand when he goes on tour. He dreams of being a dancer and eventually joins his brother on tour. He falls in love with a mermaid named Seraphina.
• Owl – Cassandra's loyal owl companion. He acts as her "eyes in the sky" and stays loyal to her even when she turns evil.
• Fidella – Cassandra's horse, who sometimes helps Rapunzel. She is Maximus's love interest.
• Ruddiger – Varian's friendly raccoon companion. He stays with Varian even when Varian is in prison. He is mischievous and sometimes cowardly but always loyal.
• Quirin (voiced by Jonathan Banks) – Varian's father and a former member of the Brotherhood. He is proud of Varian after he redeems himself.
• Monty (voiced by Richard Kind) – The owner of Corona's candy store. He initially dislikes Rapunzel because she brings changes to the kingdom. He eventually warms up to her.
• Hortense Q. "Old Lady" Crowley (voiced by Pat Carroll) – A grumpy old lady who works at the castle. She loves silence and helps defend Corona.
• Pete and Stan (voiced by Sean Hayes and Diedrich Bader) – Two comical and slightly clumsy royal guards. They are loyal to Corona and help in battles.
• Feldspar (voiced by Zachary Levi impersonating Ed Wynn) – The local shoemaker who helps defend Corona.
• Nigel (voiced by Peter MacNicol) – The royal adviser to King Frederic. He is uptight but very loyal.

Villains: The Bad Guys

• Lady Caine (voiced by Laura Benanti) – A pirate who wants revenge on King Frederic. She is the first major villain Rapunzel and Eugene face in the TV series. She is defeated multiple times.
• Dwayne (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) – A clumsy and not-very-smart criminal who used to work for Lady Caine.
• Wreck Marauder (voiced by Danny Trejo) – A famously fierce warrior who Rapunzel and Cassandra manage to defeat.
• Anthony the Weasel (voiced by Gideon Emery) – A ruthless servant of the Baron who takes over a town called Vardaros. He is defeated by Vex and Captain Quaid.
• King Trevor (voiced by Bradley Whitford) – The childish king of Equis and a rival to King Frederic. He loves playing pranks on Corona. He also has a crush on Queen Arianna.
• Stalyan (voiced by Yvonne Strahovski) – The daughter of the Baron and Eugene's former girlfriend. She tries to force Eugene to marry her but eventually accepts that Rapunzel and Eugene belong together.
• The Baron (voiced by Lance Henriksen) – A legendary crime lord who Eugene and Lance used to work for. He holds a grudge against them and tries to get revenge.
• Hector (voiced by Kim Coates) – A member of the Brotherhood who tries to stop Rapunzel from reaching the Dark Kingdom. He is later saved from Zhan Tiri's control.
