History of Tata Motors
Tata Motors started in 1945. Back then, it made locomotives, which are parts of trains. In 1954, Tata Group began making commercial vehicles. They teamed up with Mercedes-Benz from Germany. This partnership helped Tata build a factory in Jamshedpur for making trucks. By November 1954, they made their first goods carrier chassis.

In 1998, Tata launched the Indica car. A newer version, the Indica V2, came out later. Tata Motors also started selling cars to other countries, like South Africa.
In 1999, Tata Motors almost sold its car business. Ford was interested in buying it. But after a meeting, Ratan Tata decided not to sell. Years later, in 2008, Ford faced financial trouble. Tata Motors then offered to buy Ford's Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) for $2.3 billion. It was a big deal!
During the 2000s, Tata Motors grew by buying other companies and forming partnerships. They bought a truck-making unit from Daewoo in South Korea. They also teamed up with Marcopolo from Brazil to create Tata Marcopolo Bus. They also acquired Jaguar Land Rover and a company called Trilix.
On January 17, 2017, Natarajan Chandrasekaran became the chairman of Tata Group. Tata Motors also increased its share in the UV market in India. In October 2021, a company called TPG invested $1 billion in Tata Motors' electric vehicle business.
