Major Events of 48 BC
Caesar and Pompey's Big Fight
In 48 BC, two very powerful Roman generals, Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great, were fighting. Caesar's army surrounded Pompey's forces in a big battle. This was part of a large civil war in Rome.
The Death of Pompey
After the battle, Pompey the Great went to Egypt for safety. However, he was killed there. This happened because King Ptolemy of Egypt ordered his death.
The Library of Alexandria Fire
During the fighting in Egypt, a very famous place called the Library of Alexandria was accidentally burned. This library held many ancient scrolls and books, and its loss was a big blow to knowledge at the time.
A New Emperor in China
Far away in China, a new leader took power. Yuan became the new emperor of the Han Dynasty. This was a very important event for the history of China.
