Álisson Ramsés Becker (born 2 October 1992), known as Alisson Becker or just Alisson, is a Brazilian professional footballer. He plays as a goalkeeper for the English club Liverpool and the Brazil national team. Many people think he is one of the best goalkeepers ever. He is famous for his good positioning, how he passes the ball, and his skills in one-on-one situations.

Alisson started his football journey at Internacional's youth academy in 2002. He made his first team debut in 2013. During his four years there, he won the Campeonato Gaúcho title every season. In July 2016, he moved to Roma in Italy. He was named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year in the 2017–18 season.

In July 2018, Liverpool bought Alisson for a lot of money, making him the most expensive goalkeeper at that time. At Liverpool, Alisson has won many big trophies. These include the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup. In 2019, he won The Best FIFA Goalkeeper award and the first-ever Yashin Trophy. He has also been chosen twice for the FIFA FIFPRO Men's World 11, which is like a dream team of the best players.

Alisson played for Brazil's youth teams before joining the senior national team in 2015. He played in the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022. He also played in the Copa América in 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024. Brazil won the 2019 tournament, and Alisson was named its best goalkeeper.

Alisson was born in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil. He joined Internacional's academy when he was ten years old in 2002. He played for the under-23 team before making his senior debut on 17 February 2013. His first game was a 1–1 draw against Cruzeiro-RS.

He played his first Série A game on 25 August 2013. He was a backup to his brother Muriel at first. In his first season, he played six games.

The next year, Alisson competed with the famous Brazilian goalkeeper Dida. Alisson became the main goalkeeper in October 2014. He played 11 league games that year. In 2015, he was the clear first-choice goalkeeper. He played 57 games across all competitions.

On 4 February 2016, Alisson signed a deal to join Italian club Roma. He played his last game for Internacional on 15 May 2016. It was a 0–0 draw against Chapecoense. During his four years at Internacional, Alisson played over 100 games. He won the Campeonato Gaúcho title every season.

Roma

Alisson moved to Italian Serie A club Roma in July 2016. He played his first game for Roma on 17 August 2016. It was a 1–1 draw in the UEFA Champions League against Porto. For most of that season, he was the second-choice goalkeeper behind Wojciech Szczęsny. He played 15 games that season but none in the league.

When Szczęsny left, Alisson became the main goalkeeper for Roma. He later said he might have left Roma if he hadn't been promised more playing time.

Alisson finally played his first Serie A game on the first weekend of the 2017–18 Serie A season. Roma won 1–0 against Atalanta. He played very well in the 2017–18 Champions League. He helped Roma reach the semi-finals. Roma did not let in any goals at home in the Champions League until they played Liverpool. They won that game 4–2 but lost 7–6 overall. Alisson was praised for his great performances that season. He kept 22 clean sheets (no goals conceded) in total. This included 17 in the league and 5 in the Champions League.

Liverpool

2018–19: Champions League Title

On 19 July 2018, Liverpool announced they had signed Alisson. The fee was about £66.8 million, making him the most expensive goalkeeper ever at that time. However, this record was broken just four weeks later.

Alisson made his debut for Liverpool on 12 August. He kept a clean sheet in a 4–0 win against West Ham United. He was praised for keeping three clean sheets in his first three games. In August, he was nominated for Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season.

With Alisson in goal, Liverpool went 20 league games without losing at the start of the season. This was a new record for a Liverpool player. Alisson also made a very important save in the Champions League group stage. This save helped Liverpool win 1–0 against Napoli and move to the next round.

On 4 March 2019, he got his 17th Premier League clean sheet of the season. This was the most by any goalkeeper in their first Premier League season since 2006. At the end of the season, Alisson had 21 clean sheets and won the Premier League Golden Glove award.

In the Champions League, Alisson was key as Liverpool reached the final again. In the semi-final against Barcelona, he made many amazing saves. Liverpool won 4–0 at home after losing 3–0 in the first game. This meant they won 4–3 overall. In the final on 1 June 2019, Alisson kept another clean sheet. Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2–0. This was his first trophy with the club.

2019–20: Premier League Title

For the 2019–20 season, Alisson changed his shirt number to 1.

Alisson started in the 2019 FA Community Shield against Manchester City. The game was a 1–1 draw, and Manchester City won on penalties. On 9 August 2019, in the first Premier League game, Alisson got a calf injury. He had to leave the game after 38 minutes. This meant he missed the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, which Liverpool won.

He returned to play on 20 October in a draw against Manchester United. On 30 November, he was sent off (given a red card) for handling the ball outside his area. On 21 December, Alisson kept a clean sheet in the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup final. Liverpool won the trophy for the first time. On 19 January 2020, Alisson even assisted Mohamed Salah's goal in a 2–0 win against Manchester United.

On 6 March 2020, Alisson got injured again. He missed some games before the season was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He ended the season with a Premier League winner's medal. He had played 29 games.

2020–21: Liverpool Goal of the Season

On 20 September 2020, Alisson saved a penalty in Liverpool's second league game. It was a 2–0 win against Chelsea. This was his first penalty save for Liverpool. On 7 February 2021, Alisson made two mistakes that led to goals for Manchester City. Liverpool lost that game 4–1.

On 16 May 2021, Alisson scored a dramatic goal himself! Liverpool was playing West Bromwich Albion. The score was 1–1, and it was the 95th minute. Alisson came up for a corner kick. The corner was taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alisson headed the ball into the net. This was the first time a goalkeeper had scored a goal in Liverpool's 129-year history. Alisson became the sixth goalkeeper to score in the Premier League.

2021–Present: Domestic Cup Double

On 4 August 2021, Alisson signed a new contract with Liverpool until 2027. On 15 May 2022, Alisson won the FA Cup with Liverpool. They beat Chelsea 6–5 on penalties in the final. Alisson saved a penalty from Mason Mount. This allowed Kostas Tsimikas to score the winning penalty.

Liverpool also reached the Champions League final but lost 1–0 to Real Madrid. Liverpool almost won four trophies that season. They finished second in the Premier League and Champions League. But they won both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.

On 16 October 2022, Alisson assisted Mohamed Salah for a late winning goal. Liverpool beat Manchester City 1–0. Alisson became the goalkeeper with the most goal contributions (assists and goals) in Premier League history. Three days later, he saved a penalty from Jarrod Bowen. Alisson was named Liverpool's Player of the Month for October 2022.

Alisson reached 100 clean sheets for Liverpool on 6 May 2023. This was in a 1–0 win against Brentford. Even though Liverpool did not qualify for the Champions League that season, Alisson was praised as one of the best players in the league.

On 27 August 2023, Alisson made an amazing save against Miguel Almirón. This save helped Liverpool win 2–1 against Newcastle United. He won the Premier League Save of the Month award for this save. On 5 October 2024, he got injured during a game against Crystal Palace. He was out for two months. On 13 June 2021, Alisson started in Brazil's first game of the 2021 Copa América. He kept a clean sheet in a 3–0 win over Venezuela. He was on the bench for the final, which Brazil lost 1–0 to Argentina.

2021–22: The 2022 FIFA World Cup

On 7 November 2022, Alisson was named in the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He played two group stage games. He also started both knockout matches. Brazil was defeated by Croatia in the quarter-finals.

Style of Play

Alisson is known for making amazing saves. He is also very good in one-on-one situations against attackers. People praise his good positioning, how he passes the ball, and how consistently well he plays. Some even say he is the best goalkeeper in the world.

Alisson looks up to former Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés for his ability to play with the ball at his feet. He also admires Manuel Neuer for his "sweeper-keeper" style. This means he often comes out of his goal to clear the ball or challenge opponents far from his net.

Alisson is fast and knows when to rush off his line. He can clear the ball with his feet outside the penalty area. He is also quick to get down to the ground to catch or block shots. Because he is good at passing, he can start attacks quickly with his hands or long goal kicks. His skills with the ball and calm nature allow his team to play with their defenders high up the field.

Even though Alisson is tall and strong, he is also very agile and athletic. He has quick reflexes and is excellent at stopping shots. He can make spectacular saves when needed. However, he is mostly known for his smart way of playing. He uses his anticipation, consistency, and good positioning to read the game. This helps him cover the goal well and stop shots without needing to make flashy dives all the time. He is also good at catching high balls and controlling his penalty area.

Some experts believe Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. They say he is arguably the best in the world when facing an attacker alone. People have compared his playing style to other Brazilian goalkeepers like Júlio César and Cláudio Taffarel. He has even been called "The Messi of goalkeepers."

Personal Life

Alisson's older brother, Muriel, is also a goalkeeper. He also came through the Internacional academy. Alisson's family on his father's side is from Germany. His father and grandmother speak German very well. When he played for Roma, Alisson was nicknamed "The German." He also has a German passport. Besides Portuguese, his native language, Alisson also speaks Italian, Spanish, and English. In May 2019, he became a goodwill ambassador for the World Health Organization (WHO).

In 2015, Alisson married Natália Loewe, who is a doctor from Brazil. They have a daughter named Helena, born in 2017. They also have two sons, Matteo, born in 2019, and another son born in 2021. Alisson and Natália support mental health care through the WHO.

Alisson is a very religious Pentecostal Christian. He has even performed baptisms in his swimming pool for teammates like Roberto Firmino. His teammate Virgil van Dijk has nicknamed him "The Holy Goalie" because of his strong faith. He lifted the Champions League trophy wearing a T-shirt that said "† = ❤".
