Café Europe facts for kids
Café Europe, also known as Café d'Europe or Café Europa, was a special cultural event. It was organized by Austria when it was leading the European Union (EU). This event happened on Europe Day, May 9, 2006. On this day, 27 different cafés in the capital cities of the 25 EU countries at the time, plus two countries that were about to join in 2007, took part. Vienna, the capital of Austria, is famous for its old and lively café culture. This tradition started when coffee first came to Europe after wars with the Ottoman Empire in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Sweet Treats from Europe
As part of the Café Europe event, there was also a presentation called Sweet Europe. This part showed off typical sweets and cakes from each of the participating countries. It was a delicious way to learn about different cultures!
