Early Life
Dreezy was born on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. As a child, she moved to different places around the city. To deal with the challenges many young people face, Dreezy turned to the fine arts. Art helped her express herself and understand the world around her.
She started writing poetry and enjoyed scatting, a type of singing often used in jazz. At age 10, she became more interested in singing. For Dreezy, music was a way to escape and feel good. By the time she was 14, she knew she wanted to be a rapper. Her biggest musical influences are J. Cole and Lil Wayne. She has said that J. Cole is her favorite rapper of all time.
Music Career
2012–2013: Getting Started
Dreezy began to spend more time practicing her rapping skills. She became good friends with another rapper from Chicago, Sasha Go Hard. In 2012, Dreezy was a guest artist on Sasha's song, "I Ain't No Hitta." Later, Dreezy worked with the rapper Lil Durk on a song called "Ghost."
In February 2013, Dreezy and another Chicago rapper, Mikey Dollaz, released a mixtape together called Business N Pleasure. A year later, in February 2014, she released her first solo mixtape, Schizo. It included the song "No Good," which featured the famous rapper Common.
2014–2019: Signing a Record Deal
In April 2014, Dreezy remixed the song "Chiraq" by Nicki Minaj and Lil Herb. Her version became very popular, and many fans loved it. This remix got her noticed by more people in the music industry. It led to her working with Common again, this time on his album Nobody's Smiling. That same year, Vice magazine called her the "Princess of Chicago Rap."
In December 2014, Dreezy signed a contract with the major record label Interscope Records. This was a big step in her career.
On July 28, 2015, she released her first EP, which is like a short album, called Call It What You Want. On Christmas Day 2015, she released another EP called From Now On.
In January 2016, Dreezy released the single "Body". The song was a huge success and appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching number 62. Her first full album, No Hard Feelings, came out on July 15, 2016.
In 2018, she performed at the Rolling Loud music festival. In January 2019, she released her second album, Big Dreez. She also acted in the Netflix movie Beats, playing the character Queen Cabrini.
2020–Present: Becoming an Independent Artist
In 2020, Dreezy left Interscope Records to release music on her own. This is known as being an "independent artist."
On May 11, 2022, Dreezy released the song "Balance My Lows" with rapper Coi Leray. It was the first single from her album Hitgirl, which she made with the producer Hit-Boy. The album was released on May 20, 2022.
