Faye Gulini (born March 24, 1992) is an American professional snowboarder. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Faye competes for the US Snowboarding Team. She takes part in different snowboarding styles like snowboard cross, slopestyle, and halfpipe. Faye is a four-time Olympian, competing in the Winter Olympics in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

Early Life and Hobbies

Faye Gulini started snowboarding at the age of nine. She learned to ride at a ski resort called Snowbird in her home state of Utah. Her older brothers and sister, Erin, Zachary, and Nate, were the ones who first got her interested in snowboarding.

When Faye isn't snowboarding, she enjoys many other activities. Her hobbies include rock climbing, skateboarding, and camping. She also likes playing soccer, wakeboarding, and swimming in lakes and the ocean.

Snowboarding Career Journey

Faye joined the Snowbird Snowboard Team when she was just 10 years old. Her very first snowboard cross event happened when she was 10 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. By age 14, she decided she wanted to become a professional snowboarder. To follow her dream, Faye moved from her family home in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Vail, Colorado. There, she attended the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy.

Faye started competing in official FIS races on December 15, 2006. She was 14 years old and competed in the halfpipe event in Breckenridge, Colorado. After several good races, Faye won her first FIS event on January 27, 2008. This win was in the slopestyle event in Park City, Utah.

First World Cup and Olympics (2008-2010)

Faye's first time competing in a World Cup was on March 1, 2008. She competed in snowboard cross in Lake Placid, New York, finishing 30th. Seven months later, she placed 9th in a World Cup in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Her strong results in 2009 and 2010 helped her earn a spot in the 2010 Winter Olympics. These Olympics were held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

2010 Winter Olympics Performance

At her first Winter Olympic Games, Faye did very well in the qualification round. She finished 12th with a time of 1:30.75 on her first run. She was later eliminated in the quarterfinals, ending her first Olympic experience in 12th place overall.

Challenges and Comeback (2011-2013)

After the Olympics, Faye continued to perform strongly. In 2011, she placed 2nd in the FIS Junior World Championship in Cardrona, New Zealand, for snowboard cross. She also competed in the FIS Snowboard World Championships in both snowboard cross and slopestyle. Faye also finished 9th in the 2011 Winter X Games.

However, in March 2011, Faye faced a big challenge. She tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in her right knee. This injury kept her from competing for nine months.

Faye made a strong return in 2012 after her knee injury. She scored 2nd place at the Canyons Resort Sprint U.S. Grand Prix. On March 25, 2012, she finished 4th in the FIS Junior World Championship in Sierra Nevada, Spain. In 2013, she had many great performances in six World Cups. This allowed her to qualify for the World Cup held at the Olympic venue in Sochi, Russia, where she finished 8th. Just three weeks later, Faye won the 2013 Canyons Resort Sprint U.S. Grand Prix in snowboard cross. Because of her excellent results, she was moved from the US Snowboarding Team B to the US Snowboarding Team A.

2014 Winter Olympics and Beyond

Thanks to her amazing performances, Faye earned a spot in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She competed in the snowboard cross event on February 16, 2014. Her seeding time was 1:23.96. Faye made it through the quarterfinals by finishing 3rd in her race. She then finished 3rd in the semifinals, which meant she got to compete in an Olympic big final for the first time! Faye ended up in 4th place overall, which is her best Olympic result so far.

After the 2014 Olympics, Faye continued to be involved in snowboarding. She helped coach the Oakley Progression Sessions in Ontario, Canada. She also traveled to Washington to attend the U.S. Olympic Committee's Best of U.S. Awards Show. During that week, she even met President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at The White House.

On December 16, 2017, Faye achieved a major milestone. She earned a second-place podium spot in the snowboardcross World Cup in Montafon. This was her first-ever podium finish in a World Cup event!

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, Faye placed 21st in snowboard cross. She continued to compete at the highest level, representing her country.
