Henry Cavill (born 5 May 1983) is a British actor. He is famous for playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies. He first appeared as Superman in Man of Steel (2013). He played the role again in Batman v Superman (2016) and Justice League (2017). He also appeared in the director's cut of Justice League (2021).
Cavill started his TV career in 2002. He played Charles Brandon in the TV series The Tudors (2007–2010). This role helped him become well-known. Later, he starred as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher (2019–2023).
His film roles include Immortals (2011) and spy movies like The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015). He also appeared in Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018). Cavill played Sherlock Holmes in the Enola Holmes film series (2020–present). His recent films include Argylle (2024) and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024).

Early Life and School
Henry Cavill was born on 5 May 1983 in Saint Helier, Jersey. He is the fourth of five boys in his family. His mother, Marianne, worked as a bank secretary. His father, Colin, was a stockbroker.
Cavill went to St Michael's Preparatory School in Jersey. Then he attended Stowe School in England. At Stowe, he enjoyed both sports and drama. He acted in school plays like Grease and Dogg's Hamlet. He also played field hockey and rugby.
In 2000, when he was 16, Cavill met actor Russell Crowe. Crowe was filming near Cavill's school. Crowe gave him some acting advice. Years later, they worked together in the movie Man of Steel.
Acting Career
Early Roles (2001–2010)
Cavill started his film career in 2001 with Laguna. He also appeared in The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). He had roles in TV shows like The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2002) and Midsomer Murders (2003).
From 2007 to 2010, Cavill starred in the TV series The Tudors. He played Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. This show was very popular and won awards. Cavill said The Tudors helped his career a lot. Entertainment Weekly magazine even called him the "Most Dashing Duke."
Cavill was considered for many big roles early in his career. He was almost cast as Superman in a 2004 film. He was also a fan favorite for Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The author of the Twilight series wanted him to play Edward Cullen. However, he was too old for the role when filming began. He was also a final choice for James Bond in Casino Royale (2006).
While on The Tudors, Cavill also acted in films. He was in the horror film Blood Creek (2008). He also had a role in Woody Allen's comedy Whatever Works (2009). He then played Theseus in the movie Immortals (2011). He also starred with Bruce Willis in The Cold Light of Day (2012).
Becoming a Star (2011–2023)

In 2011, Henry Cavill was chosen to play Clark Kent / Superman in Zack Snyder's movie Man of Steel. Director Snyder said Cavill was "the perfect choice." Cavill was very honored to play such a famous superhero.
He played Superman again in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). This movie brought Superman together with Batman and Wonder Woman. He also appeared as Superman in the 2017 movie Justice League. He returned for Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021.

In 2015, Cavill co-starred in the spy film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. It was directed by Guy Ritchie. In 2018, he played August Walker in the action spy film Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He also starred in the thriller Night Hunter that year. Cavill has said he would be interested in playing James Bond in the future.
From 2019 to 2023, Cavill played Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. This show is based on a popular book series. In late 2022, Cavill announced he would leave The Witcher after its third season. Liam Hemsworth took over his role.
In 2020, Cavill played Sherlock Holmes in the movie Enola Holmes. He starred alongside Millie Bobby Brown. He played Sherlock again in Enola Holmes 2 (2022). A third Enola Holmes movie is being developed.
In 2021, it was announced that Cavill would star in a new Highlander movie. He also joined the cast of director Matthew Vaughn's spy film Argylle.
Cavill made a special appearance as Superman in the 2022 movie Black Adam. He was expected to return as Superman in more films. However, in December 2022, he announced he would no longer play Superman. His cameo in The Flash movie was removed.
Recent and Future Projects
In April 2024, Cavill worked with director Guy Ritchie again. They made the World War II spy action film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Cavill will also reunite with Ritchie for the film In The Grey, set for 2025.
Cavill is also involved in projects based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe. He will be an executive producer and star in these shows and movies for Amazon Studios.
In July 2024, Cavill made a surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine. He played a version of Wolverine called "Cavillrine".
Personal Life and Hobbies
Henry Cavill lives in South Kensington, London. He was engaged to show jumper Ellen Whitaker from 2011 to 2012. In May 2021, he announced his relationship with Natalie Viscuso. In April 2024, they shared that they are expecting their first child.
Cavill started practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2016. He supports the Jersey Rugby Club. He also follows American football and is a fan of the National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs.
He has loved gaming since he was a child. Once, he missed a call from director Zack Snyder about the Superman role because he was playing World of Warcraft. He prefers PC gaming and builds his own gaming computer. He said playing The Witcher video games made him want to play Geralt in the TV series. He also enjoys the Total War strategy games. A character inspired by him was added to Total War: Warhammer II. Cavill also loves the Warhammer 40,000 games and stories.
Cavill is a spokesperson for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. He is also an ambassador for The Royal Marines Charity. He has taken part in events to support the Royal Marines.
Cavill has sectoral heterochromia, which means he has different colors in parts of his eyes.
