Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill (born 5 May 1983) is a British actor. He is famous for playing many well-known characters. These include Charles Brandon in the TV show The Tudors. He also played Superman in the DC Extended Universe movies.
More recently, he starred as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. He also played Sherlock Holmes in the Netflix films Enola Holmes (2020) and Enola Holmes 2 (2022).
Cavill started his acting career in films like The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). He also appeared in TV shows such as The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2002) and Midsomer Murders (2003). Early Life and Education
Henry Cavill was born on 5 May 1983. He grew up in Saint Helier, Jersey, which is one of the Channel Islands. He is the fourth of five boys in his family. His mother, Marianne, worked as a bank secretary. His father, Colin, was a stockbroker.
Henry went to St Michael's Preparatory School in Jersey. Later, he attended Stowe School in England. At Stowe, he was very active in sports and drama. He played a T-Bird in a school play of Grease in 1999. He also had the main role in a play called Dogg's Hamlet. He played field hockey and rugby for his school teams.
In 2000, when he was 16, Henry met actor Russell Crowe. Russell Crowe was filming near Henry's school. He gave Henry some acting advice. Years later, they worked together in the movie Man of Steel.

Starting Out in Acting (2001–2010)
Henry Cavill began his film career with a role in Laguna (2001). He then appeared in The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). He also had roles in TV shows like The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2002) and Midsomer Murders (2003). In 2003, he was in I Capture the Castle.
From 2007 to 2010, Cavill played a main role in the TV series The Tudors. He played Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. This show was very popular and helped his career a lot. Henry said The Tudors made more people in America know who he was.
Before playing Superman, Henry was considered for other big roles. He was almost cast as Superman in a 2004 film. He was also a fan favorite to play Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The author of the Twilight books wanted him to play Edward Cullen. However, he was too old for the role by the time the film was made.
In 2005, Henry was a final choice for James Bond in Casino Royale. The role eventually went to Daniel Craig.
After The Tudors, Henry starred in the horror film Blood Creek (2008). He also had a role in Woody Allen's comedy Whatever Works (2009). He then played Theseus in the movie Immortals (2011). He also starred with Bruce Willis in The Cold Light of Day (2012).
Becoming a Star (2011–2023)
On 30 January 2011, it was announced that Henry Cavill would play Clark Kent / Superman in Man of Steel. The director, Zack Snyder, said Henry was the perfect choice. Henry felt honored to play such a famous superhero.

He played Superman again in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). This movie brought Superman together with Batman and Wonder Woman. He even went to San Diego Comic-Con in disguise to surprise the cast of Suicide Squad.

Cavill returned as Superman in Justice League (2017). He also appeared in Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021). For a time, it seemed he would continue playing Superman in future films. However, in December 2022, he announced he would no longer play Superman for the new DC Studios plans.
In 2015, he co-starred with Armie Hammer in the spy film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In 2018, he played August Walker in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. This was the sixth movie in the Mission: Impossible series.
From 2019 to 2023, Cavill played Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. This show is based on popular books. In late 2022, Henry and Netflix announced he would leave The Witcher after the third season. Liam Hemsworth will take over the role.
In 2020, Henry played Sherlock Holmes in the film Enola Holmes. He starred alongside Millie Bobby Brown, who played Sherlock's younger sister. He played Sherlock again in Enola Holmes 2 (2022).
In 2021, it was announced that Henry would star in a new Highlander movie. He also joined the cast of the spy film Argylle. In 2022, he made a cameo appearance as Superman in the movie Black Adam.
New Projects (2024–Present)
In April 2024, Cavill worked again with director Guy Ritchie on the World War II spy action film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He will also reunite with Ritchie in the film In the Grey, set for 2025.
Henry Cavill is also involved with projects related to the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. He is set to star in and help produce these projects for Amazon Studios. In July 2024, he made a surprise cameo in the Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine as a version of Wolverine.
Personal Life
Henry Cavill lives in London, England. In May 2021, he announced his relationship with Natalie Viscuso. In April 2024, they shared that they are expecting their first child.
Henry started learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2016. He supports the Jersey Rugby Club. He also enjoys American football and is a fan of the National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs.
He has been a big gamer since he was a child. He once missed a phone call from director Zack Snyder about the Superman role because he was playing World of Warcraft. He prefers PC gaming and builds his own gaming computer. He says playing The Witcher video games made him want to play Geralt in the TV show. He also loves the Total War and Warhammer 40,000 game series.
Cavill is a spokesperson for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. This organization helps protect wildlife. He is also an ambassador for The Royal Marines Charity.
