Mirpur (Urdu: مِيرپُور) is a city in Pakistan administered Jammu and Kashmir, and the headquarter of Mirpur District and formerly the Mirpur Division. Although it is now part of Jammu and Kashmir, up until the 1846 treaty of Amritsar Mirpur was part of the Punjab. The population are Pahari and the language they speak is Potowari . Mirpur is located at the South West of Jammu and Kashmir at a elevation of 459 metres (1509 ft), not far from Islamgarh. It is 323 kilometres (200 miles) from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir and 295 kilometres (183 miles) from Muzaffarabad.
