Simon Marcus (born November 5, 1986) is a Canadian athlete. He is known as The One in the fighting world. Simon is a mixed martial artist and a former Muay Thai kickboxer.
He competes in the Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight divisions. Simon Marcus was a two-time champion in the Glory organization. He has defeated many famous fighters, including Kaoklai Kaennorsing and Israel Adesanya.

Early life
Simon Marcus grew up in Canada and has Jamaican Canadian roots. As a young person, he faced some challenges. At age fifteen, he had difficulties in school, including getting into fights and being expelled.
After moving to a new school, Simon found a Muay Thai gym nearby. He started training there. For two years, he stopped Muay Thai to play basketball and spent time in a special center for young people. After leaving the center, he returned to the gym. His goal was to become a professional fighter.
Kickboxing career
Amateur career
Simon started Muay Thai when he was sixteen. He quickly became successful as an amateur fighter. He won medals at three international tournaments. He also became the North American Cruiserweight Champion.
His amateur career began in 2006. In 2007, he won a gold medal at the IFMA World Championships. The next year, he finished as the runner-up. In 2009, he became the WKA Amateur North American Cruiserweight Champion. He also won a gold medal at the World Combat Games 2010.
Turning professional
Simon Marcus became a professional fighter in 2007. He continued to fight as both an amateur and a professional until 2011. He won his first professional titles in Thailand. He earned the Thaphae Stadium Light Heavyweight belt and the Northern Thailand Cruiserweight strap.
In 2010, he had important wins against Filip Verlinden and Eh Phoutong. He also defeated Ryuta Noji. He ended 2010 with a first-round knockout win in China. Simon fought Guo Hang Hang again in 2011 and won by decision.
Joe Schilling rivalry
In 2012, Simon Marcus entered the top ten world rankings. On February 25, 2012, he fought Joe Schilling in Las Vegas. This fight was to decide North America's best light heavyweight. Simon won the fight by knockout in the first round.
After the fight, Joe Schilling's team said Simon's move was against the rules. They asked for the fight result to be changed, but it was not. Later in 2012, Simon fought Kaoklai Kaennorsing in Thailand. He won by unanimous decision and earned his first professional world title.
On April 21, 2012, Simon Marcus won two fights in one night in China. He knocked out Green Spangler and then beat Li Shuai by decision. Because of the first fight's controversy, Simon and Joe Schilling had a rematch on May 12, 2012. Simon won this close fight by majority decision.
Marcus vs. Levin
Simon Marcus moved up to #6 in the world rankings. He was set to fight Artem Levin, who was considered the best light heavyweight kickfighter. This fight was planned for June 9, 2012, but Simon pulled out.
The fight between Levin and Marcus was planned two more times but was cancelled. Simon returned to fighting on December 1, 2012. He won by knockout against Sadibou Sy. He ended the year with a perfect record of six wins and no losses.
On January 10, 2013, Simon Marcus won two fights in one night again. He knocked out Arthit Hanchana and Wang Anying. The highly anticipated fight between Simon Marcus and Artem Levin finally happened on March 15, 2013. Simon won by unanimous decision and became the world's #1 fighter.
Fighting in China
On April 27, 2013, Simon Marcus defeated Dmitry Valent in China. It was a close fight, and Simon won by split decision. He then fought Suriya Prasathinphimai on June 14, 2013. Simon won by unanimous decision and kept his WPMF belt.
He had a controversial draw with Chidi Njokuani on September 29, 2013. Simon was penalized a point during the fight. After the fight, there was a heated discussion backstage. On October 25, 2013, Simon defeated Jiang Chunpeng in China.
On December 15, 2013, Simon Marcus won against Damian Bujan in Argentina. He used many elbows and knees in this fight. The match was briefly stopped when both fighters fell through the ropes.
Simon Marcus won a tournament in China on February 16, 2014. In the semi-finals, he fought Israel Adesanya. The fight was a draw after three rounds, so they had an extra round. Simon won that round. In the final, he stopped Vehas TopKing with a knee to the body.
Glory
Simon Marcus joined the Glory organization, a major kickboxing league. He competed in a middleweight tournament on June 21, 2014. He fought Joe Schilling for the third time in the quarter-finals. The fight was very close and went to an extra round. Simon lost by knockout in that round, which was his first professional loss.
At Glory 21: San Diego, Simon Marcus fought Artem Levin for the Glory Middleweight Title. The fight was close and ended in a controversial draw. They had a rematch at Glory 27: Chicago. Simon won the fight by disqualification when Levin left the ring during the match.
In his first title defense, Simon Marcus fought Dustin Jacoby at Glory 34: Denver. Simon won by TKO, breaking Jacoby's arm with a kick. In his second title defense, he had a rematch with Jason Wilnis. Wilnis won the fight by TKO in the third round.
Two months later, Simon won two TKO fights. He then had another rematch with Jason Wilnis at Glory 40: Copenhagen. Simon defeated Wilnis by split decision to win the Glory Middleweight Championship again. For his first defense of this title, he fought Alex Pereira. Pereira won the fight by unanimous decision.
After losing his title, Simon fought Zack Wells at Glory 52: Los Angeles. Simon won by TKO in just over a minute. At Glory 56: Denver, he fought Jason Wilnis for the fourth time and won by split decision. Simon challenged for the Glory Middleweight title a third time at Glory 58: Chicago. He fought Alex Pereira again, but Pereira won by unanimous decision.
Mixed martial arts
Simon Marcus made his professional MMA debut on December 17, 2021. He fought Anton Tokarchuk in Unified MMA 42. Simon won the fight by technical unanimous decision. This happened because Tokarchuk could not continue due to an accidental eye poke.
Simon was scheduled to fight Dylan Schellenberg on March 4, 2022. However, that fight was cancelled because Schellenberg had to withdraw.
