The Goddess Girls is a popular series of books for young readers. It was written by Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams. The books are published by Simon & Schuster.
The stories are based on Greek mythology. They show the younger gods and goddesses as students. These students go to a special school called Mount Olympus Academy (MOA). At MOA, they learn to use their amazing powers.
The series mainly follows four best friends: Athena, Persephone, Aphrodite, and Artemis.

Main Characters
The series focuses on four main goddess girls who are best friends.
The Goddess Girls
- Athena is super smart and loves learning. At first, she lived on Earth and felt a bit different. She then found out her dad is Zeus, the King of the Gods! Athena moved to Mount Olympus Academy and became a top student. She has wavy brown hair and gray eyes. Athena can also change her shape. She loves owls and becomes the goddess of wisdom. In Athena the Wise, she develops a crush on Heracles.
- Persephone is the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of flowers and spring. Persephone loves flowers and can make them grow just by touching them. She is very kind and understanding. She has pale skin and red hair. Her mom always told her to agree with others. But when she meets Hades, she starts to follow her own heart. She becomes a dog-lover because of Hades' three-headed dog, Cerberus. In Persephone the Daring, she shares her first kiss with Hades.
- Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty. She is one of the most popular girls at school. She has long, curly blond hair and blue eyes. Aphrodite loves to help humans find love. She doesn't have parents; she came from the seafoam. Her beauty attracts a lot of attention from the god boys. She has an on-and-off relationship with Ares, but they always make up.
- Artemis loves animals and sports. She is the best archer at Mount Olympus Academy. Her twin brother is Apollo. Artemis doesn't care much about fashion. She is the goddess of the moon and hunting. She has dark skin and always carries her bow and silver arrows. She has three dogs and four white deer. In Artemis the Brave, she has a crush on Orion.

Godboys
- Apollo is the god of truth and prophecies. He is Artemis's twin brother. Like Artemis, he is good at sports and archery. He is in a band called Heavens Above. In Cassandra the Lucky, he gets a crush on Cassandra.
- Ares is the god of war and the fastest runner at the Academy. He is tall and muscular. Aphrodite thinks he is the cutest god boy. He is also in the band Heavens Above. He and Aphrodite often argue but are deeply in love.
- Dionysus is the god of wine. He appears in Medusa the Mean. He and Medusa start to like each other, even though they are very different.
- Poseidon is the god of the sea. He always carries a trident and seems to be wet. He is one of the popular god boys. In Amphitrite the Bubbly, it is shown that he wants to achieve great things. Poseidon has a crush on Amphitrite.
- Hades is the god of the Underworld. He first appears in Persephone the Phony. He is dark and handsome. He didn't talk much until he met Persephone. She was the first to like him for who he is. They fall in love. Hades has a three-headed dog named Cerberus.
- Hephaestus is the god of metalworking. He first appears in Aphrodite the Beauty. He is small and has a limp. Aphrodite doesn't like his looks at first. He has a crush on Aphrodite, but later falls in love with another goddess girl named Aglaia.
Mortals
- Medusa is first known as the "mean girl" at Mount Olympus Academy. But she is actually just misunderstood. She is famous for her gaze that can turn people to stone. This happened by accident because of one of Athena's inventions. Medusa is one of the only mortals at MOA. She wants to be immortal and popular. In Medusa the Mean, she gets to be immortal for one day. She used to like Poseidon, but later develops feelings for Dionysus.
- Pandora is a very curious mortal girl. She used to like Poseidon. But then she gets a crush on Epimetheus in Pandora the Curious. Her friends are Athena, Medusa, and Pheme. Her hair bangs are shaped like a question mark. She is very nice but asks a lot of questions without waiting for answers.
- Heracles first appears in Athena the Wise. He is a mortal boy with dark, curly hair. He wears a lion-skin cape. In the book, he has to complete 12 difficult tasks to stay at the Academy. Athena helps him, and they develop a crush on each other.
- Actaeon is mentioned in Artemis the Brave and Artemis the Loyal. He is friends with Apollo. In The Girl Games, he shows interest in Penthe. He later kisses Artemis, showing he has a crush on her.
- Cassandra first appears at Hera and Zeus's wedding. She used to be a princess from Troy. In Cassandra the Lucky, she can tell the future, but no one believes her. She later gets a crush on Apollo.
Supporting Characters
- Zeus is the principal of Mount Olympus Academy. He is also the king of the gods. Athena is his daughter. In Medusa the Mean, Zeus marries Hera. He is very tall and has a red beard. His office is often messy.
- Demeter is Persephone's mother. She is the goddess of growing things. Demeter doesn't like Hades at first. But she changes her mind when Persephone tells her that Zeus likes him. She owns a flower shop.
- Hera is introduced in Aphrodite the Diva. She is Zeus's new wife and Athena's stepmother. She is the goddess of marriage. She owns a shop called Hera's Happy Endings.
- Pheme talks very fast and loves to spread news and gossip. When she talks, small clouds of words appear. She has short orange hair and orange wings. She is friends with the Goddess Girls. Pheme has a crush on Eros, the god of love.
- Iris is the goddess of the rainbow. She can make rainbows and travel very fast. Her wings and hair change colors with her mood. She travels on rainbows. Zephyrus is Iris's crush.
- Amphitrite is the goddess of the seas. She is a beautiful mermaid with blue hair. She transfers to MOA as an exchange student. She learns to change her tail into legs. Poseidon is Amphitrite's crush.
- Hestia is the goddess of the hearth (home and family). She wears a long red cape. In Hestia the Invisible, she feels unseen at first. But she loves to cook. She becomes famous for a new dessert recipe.
- Echo is a forest nymph. She copies other students at Mount Olympus Academy to make friends. She has dark skin and green hair. In Echo the Copycat, everyone finds her copying annoying. The Goddess Girls help her learn to be herself.
- Clotho is one of the Fates. She spins the thread of life. Her older sisters are Lachesis and Atropos. In Clotho the Fate, she and her sisters want to open a yarn store. Zeus allows them to have their store in the end.
- Eos is the goddess of the dawn. She is friends with Nyx. In Eos the Lighthearted, she doesn't want to go to MOA. She blames Zeus for her father's imprisonment. But she later learns her father is fine and friends with Zeus.
- Medea is an enchantress. She creates magic potions and spells. In Medea The Enchantress, she helps her friend Jason get the Golden Fleece. Medea and Jason fall in love.
- Calliope is one of the Muses. She is the muse of epic poetry. In Calliope the Muse, she and her sisters decide to make a museum at the Academy. She is Amphitrite's roommate.

Athena is very smart but didn't know she was a goddess. Mount Olympus Academy is a new start for her. But she has to deal with Medusa, who is the meanest girl there.
Persephone the Phony
Persephone often just goes along with what others want. But when she meets Hades, the "bad boy" from Mount Olympus Academy, she feels she can finally be herself.
Aphrodite the Beauty
Aphrodite loves helping humans with love. But she gets annoyed by all the attention from god boys. When she gives Athena a makeover, she gets jealous of Athena's new popularity. She learns that some boys are kinder than others.
Artemis the Brave
Artemis's friends think she is the bravest goddess girl. But she is secretly afraid of scary creatures in Beastology class. She is also scared to talk to her crush, Orion.
Athena the Wise
A human boy named Heracles transfers to the Academy. Athena understands his problems because she was new too. Heracles needs to complete 12 difficult tasks or he will be expelled. Athena and Heracles work together to finish the tasks.
Aphrodite the Diva
Aphrodite is failing Hero-ology class. To improve her grade, she starts a "Lonely Hearts Club." This club helps humans find love. This project takes her to Egypt. There, she faces a rival goddess named Isis. It becomes a race to see who can find the best match for a very annoying human boy.
Artemis the Loyal
It's time for the yearly Olympic Games at Mount Olympus Academy. The four goddess girls are not happy because only boys can compete. Artemis tries to convince Zeus to let girls join. When that fails, she plans a girls-only Olympics. Zeus decides to name these games after his new wife, Hera.
Medusa the Mean
Medusa is one of the only mortals at Mount Olympus Academy. She is tired of being surrounded by immortal classmates. She wants to be more like her sisters and the other kids: immortal and popular. She finds out about a necklace that promises immortality. She hopes it will help her become popular and get Poseidon to notice her.
The Girl Games
Artemis, Persephone, Aphrodite, and Athena finally get to hold a girls-only Olympic Games. But organizing the event is hard. Artemis tries to do everything herself. Athena gets into trouble with a winged horse named Pegasus. Aphrodite and Persephone argue over a lost kitten. Will these games be remembered for all the wrong reasons?
Pandora the Curious
Pandora is a mortal girl known for her curiosity. A Titan god boy named Epimetheus brings a mysterious box to school. Pandora can't resist looking inside the new box when it lands in her lap.
Pheme the Gossip
Pheme loves knowing all the gossip at MOA. But when she gets caught snooping, she is challenged to go a whole day without gossiping. A special spell makes sure she doesn't. But then a mysterious person hints at a danger to the world. Pheme must find a way to warn Principal Zeus.
Persephone the Daring
Orpheus is a mortal rock god. He charms all the girls at Mount Olympus Academy with his songs. His latest song is about the girl he loves, Eurydice. When Eurydice gets stuck in the Underworld, Orpheus asks Persephone to help bring her back.
Cassandra the Lucky
Cassandra wants to help people make their own luck. But no one believes her predictions. She is not even allowed to write the fortunes for her family's bakery cookies. To prove herself, Cassandra sends special fortunes to MOA. Her fortunes cause problems, and the goddess girls try to find a solution.
Athena the Proud
Athena plans to improve the Labyrinth for King Minos. But her efforts have unexpected results.
Iris the Colorful
Principal Zeus asks Iris to get magic water from the River Styx in the Underworld. She discovers a new power to travel by rainbow. Iris hopes Zeus will make her the goddess of rainbows. She also wonders if her crush Zephyrus likes her best friend, Antheia, more.
Aphrodite the Fair
Ares's sister Eris, the goddess of arguments, visits on his birthday. She brings a shiny golden apple trophy that says, "For the fairest." The contest for the trophy threatens Athena and Aphrodite's friendship.
Medusa the Rich
Medusa suddenly gets the Midas touch. She can turn objects into gold just by touching them. Gold is everywhere! But when not just objects, but food and even people turn golden, she realizes the dangers.
Amphitrite the Bubbly
Amphitrite is a mermaid in the Aegean Sea. She wants to see the world. But she can't change her tail into legs like her sisters. When her twin sister is invited to the Temple Games, Amphitrite takes her place. She has fun until Gaia and her sons, the giants, crash the party.
Hestia the Invisible
Hestia feels unseen at Mount Olympus Academy. She decides to become more noticeable. With help from Pheme, the goddess of gossip, she tries to stand out. Hestia changes from being shy but keeps her kindness.
Echo the Copycat
Echo is a forest nymph. She likes to copy anything she finds cool. But everyone finds her copying annoying.
Calliope the Muse
Calliope has many clever ideas to make the Academy more lively. She loves to inspire others. But she sometimes has trouble inspiring herself.
Pallas the Pal
Pallas is a mortal girl. She signs up for a swordplay competition at the temple of her old best friend, Athena. She is excited to see Athena again. But then she learns Athena has new best friends at MOA.
Nyx the Mysterious
Nyx, the Goddess of the Night, visits the Academy.
Medea the Enchantress
Medea uses her magic to help her friend Jason get the Golden Fleece.
Eos the Lighthearted
Eos is the Goddess of Dawn. She is friends with Nyx. She doesn't want to go to the Academy. She blames Zeus for her father's imprisonment.
Clotho the Fate
Eleven-year-old Clotho is one of the Three Fates. She wants to earn respect from unhappy mortals. This might mean breaking one of Zeus's strict rules.
Persephone the Grateful
In the Underworld, Persephone and Hades meet the naiad Minthe.
